Seriously it’s been like nearly 7yrs since overwatch launched and you still got people saying this crap.
This is the fault of Hammond having more mobility than the rest of his team. How can you expect anyone on your team to help you at all when someone just had to use their only mobility to escape the enemy tank because you aren’t there to get in their face? Putting them on a 6sec cooldown?
The enemy tank can do whatever the hell they want to your team because most tanks do not have a 1v1 equivalent that can challenge them. A single Brigitte can heavily mitigate the entire value out of Hammond allowing her team to just generally ignore Hammond’s existence except for a few moments and just concentrate on the rest of your own team.
Part of it too team picks. Hammonds vs Winston a Winston can do an awful lot of work to your team if they try picking dive heroes. If you pick Tracer/Hammond/Genji and ahve some dive partners your entire support line up has nothing to defend themselves with against the enemy tank Winston. If you lose a DPS to go help counter Winston (Reaper + 2 support) you lost someone who might have helped dive with you.
It was more of a “Sombra was better in OW1 and she’s going to get changed to be even more useless” comment.
She can reliably interrupt Wrecking Ball’s rollouts and hurt him quite a bit with the damage bonus though.
It’s not necessarily incorrect though since it is a fact that Hammond’s presence creates higher death averages for his allies than other tanks. OW devs posted about this during OW2 beta and was also cited as the reason why JQ shout got nerfed during it (Allied death averages were too low bcuz she was too good at protecting allies with her shout) Then on the opposite end of the spectrum was Sigma I think who was the lowest average.
Yeah JQ got the hatchet job there, 50hp for allies is almost nothing. Never mind how long the CD is and if you use it for allies your going to die as JQ most the time.
It’s kind of funny how most the reworks take away all forms of protection for their teams with tanks now. Orisa lost her shield but gained the spinny spear. Zarya is now allowed to use both her bubbles on herself and so on.
Basically it’s like tanks just ignore their team and let them fend for themselves in OW2.
i understand your opinion, but your opinion is wrong
1- Tanks aren’t meant to absorb all the damage from u. They are designed to CREATE/HOLD SPACE no matter how.
2- It gives space for offmeta/situational picks like sombra and brig to balance the dps role.
3- Do you really think it’s cool to remove the posibility of being self sufficent (other than roadhog who is crap) when ur team aint helping at all? Thats a double standard when u already have self healing in every support and you have a lot of options as a dps to self sustain. Playing tank without a decent backline, feels pretty tough and hopeless.
4- Hell, is ball that common even? Maybe u can adapt ur playstyle to deal with him, but he is not that common sincerely, so u just can avoid all of them if u dont wanna learn how to play with him as a teammate.
and 5- dont use the argument “wen in my tim he bad, but when him in other tim gud”. That applies to every hero.
Creating a 3-5 second window of disruption where enemies are only looking at Ball is still pulling aggro. And last I checked Tracer and Genji don’t have CC. They are better suited as duelists, where as Ball can duel (just like any tank) but he can also jump into multiple enemies without dying like a squishy would. We are tired of your BS analogies comparing non-shield tanks to dps heroes. Next you’ll ask if Widow is a tank because she creates space, right? It’s all so tiring.
Are you talking about Ball or Sombra? Seems like you are mixing them up.
I mean you could say the same thing about any dive tank, and clearly the others also work. DPS shouldn’t have to use a mobility to counter a diving tank because even without a dive partner for Ball it’s a 4v1. On Ball you can usually pull both supports and a DPS on your engages, if not soaking their cooldowns, but if your team can’t focus their tank (or if it’s Orisa) or whatever else, you lose, and that’s a skill/teamplay issue.
It should never be a 1v1, and if it is they’re not doing anything to your team, there’s a logical error there. If it’s 1 tank vs 1 heal, fine, your heal dies, they have no tank while 4 of you collapse on the rest of their team and you win the teamfight/objective progress. If none of your team dives with Ball, he still soaks a bunch of their powerful cooldowns and your team should still win.
Which is why they should be dive as well, or know how to defend themselves well via dives with Brig, Bap, or Sleep. I don’t even think Mercy can dive with most, anymore. Ideally you run Kiriko Moira with Ball, but how many times do you actually see that? Regardless, a Ball can generally do more in the enemy backline than a Winston because Ball has higher damage, unless their team is stupidly clumped up. Depends on the tier.
It’s kind of astounding how even like Bastion + 2 supps can’t kill a Winton in certain cases. I wish the matchmaker was much better.
Ball. I woudl also accept doomfist and sombra as candidates fitting that description, though personally I never felt like sombra was very annoying because she was insanely easy to deal with (at least, ironically, for everyone except ball and doomfist). Hacking from stealth was a huuuuuge mistake, though.
Well you’re in luck, OP, Hammond isn’t getting much use in OWL and Contenders play. GM players are just slow to change, but they will. Then the streamers and then boom, overnight people will tell you to switch to the new meta pick in every rank and mode.
