I cant play the game at all

so I’ve been playing overwatch on a laptop for over a year now and nothing has been a problem until 2 days ago when the game starts up with the loading screen and then takes me off that and says I disconnected from the servers while my internet is perfectly fine and running well , any time I try to reload the game it takes me back to the screen with red writing , like I said this has never been a problem until 2 days ago , I’ve checked for updates and scanned and repaired the game but nothing seems to work. could someone please help me out

Howdy!

It seems like the client isn’t able to connect. I would recommend to start by refreshing the connection and check for anything that may of accidentally started blocking the game.

  1. Power Cycle your home network.
  2. Once the system is back onlineflush your DNS cache. You may also try another DNS provider such as GoogleDNS.
  3. Double check your Anti-virus and personal firewall software are fully setup to exclude the game.
  4. If you are using Wifi try a wired connection following the steps Here.

Retest. If the issue continues try running a WinMTR and posting the results back here for review!

thank you for the advice and I have done everything you said and then I started up overwatch again and it started the loading screen up and then disconnected me again , any advice after this would be nice please

Be sure to grab the WinMTR results that were requested in the previous post so we can take a look at the connection

here are my results

What is the model of your router and modem? We’re seeing some slight packet loss early on and a spike of 600+ ms. Is this a wired connection?

I’m on a bt router if that makes any help , its not wired either

Can you provide the exact model of the router and modem?

how can I find out the exact model of my router as im not too sure on it

There will generally be a label with that information somewhere on the router.

it says its an ADSL modem if that’s any help , still trying to find the exact model of the router

Dude I have been having the same problem. 1 out of 3 matches I get disconnected and it is a problem on THEIR end, yet I still get punished for it (dropped endorsement rating a ton).

Yet no notes about it, no acknowledgement of the issue, everything that is suggested is always insinuated it “Has to be a problem with your router or internet provider” when it literally, isn’t. What makes me the most unhappy is that regardless, legitimate assistance doesn’t seem to be on the horizon and wont be any time soon.

That’s just what makes me unhappy, what pisses me off however, is the fact I am getting punished for every other match for a technical issue that isn’t on my end. The damages the “safe guards” does to my account won’t even be undone.

As a friendly reminder, penalties will never be reversed. Unfortunately all disconnections and game crashes counts as leaving the match and will be penalized appropriately. The game server has no way to discern a legitimate disconnection or game crash from one that is forcefully caused by a dishonest player to bypass leaver penalties. You can learn about this policy here:

Its frustrating to deal with disconnections, but understand that problems can occur anywhere between your computer and the game server. This is why support agents and players like myself ask for WinMTRs because it helps us identify where the problem exists.

Look for a label with barcodes usually on the bottom or backside of the router. If you see such a label try photographing that label, upload it to a image host such as TinyPic and share the link here. Note you can bypass any link blockers by typing the link between two tick marks (`).

I’ve re tried to load up the game and it still wont work , any ideas on why guys ?

Please provide the label of your modem like the blue post asked so people can continue helping you.

my router is a BT smart hub type A if that helps you

I see some other users of this modem in Google search results having a similar problem. Your ping is very high (should never be in the 600 range) within your own home network, and this should be addressed by your ISP.

what should I do then

You should call your ISP to investigate the issue.
