I get the feeling you really have no idea what you’re talking about, and you would prefer not to understand what you’re talking about.
This isn’t splitting hairs. The person who creates character models and maps and makes the game look pretty does not earn anything anywhere near the engineers who develop the software.
Even then the starting salary for a designer is $88k.
The median salary is $115k.
$115k to make designs. Three-to-four times the median national income.
I only feel bad for them in the sense that even if they want to do better they still might not be able to due to interference from higher ups and execs. The devs just take all the blame for it because it’s intuitive to think they’re to blame even when they’re not.
This is a hill Im willing to die on. 5v5 was Aron Kellers thing. As soon as Jeff Kaplan left and Aron took over, BAM 5v5 announced. NOONE was talking about shifting to 5v5 before he took over. And Im also willing to die on the hill that the 1,3,2 experimental was his “thing” to see what would happen reducing the tanks. He is a carry over from the old team and I put the state of the game squarely on his shoulders.
You’re trying to use an umbrella term to include everyone involved in any part of development as a developer. When not everyone works in development. Notably the engineers and the artists.
There are teams, usually a mixture of different roles working on a set of goals. Each role comes with its own tasks and responsibilities. Creatives create concepts, art, skins, graphics and animations. Everything you see in the game was created by a designer role.
Engineers take these assets and implement them into the software, making the assets interactive, turning graphics into shaders, and putting the pieces together seamlessly so that the player experience is largely uninterrupted on update. QoL updates and bug fixes are also constantly monitored, as well as backend maintenance. Anything you interact with, an engineer made it.
Case and point, just about anyone working at Blizzard is making upwards of $100k. Explain why I should be sympathetic?
A designer designs designs.
Skins are usually based on designs. Big job, that.
No, you don’t. But I also never said this is about me.
You could also continue to harm your own arguments by giving out wrong information. Your choice.
I don’t give a damn about you, I’m just interested in facts.
