Just like many others, I love watching Sombra. And I love thinking of hypothetical reworks. I don’t expect it to be taken seriously.
But what if: Sombra became subtle, just like the first version in Overwatch 1?
Abilities:
Hack: Disables a few abilities for 3 seconds. Most abilities would stay available. Also, over 3 seconds, decreases HP by 50. If opponent’s teammate is near (within 4m) the damage (virus) spreads to that teammate, and subsequent teammates in a chain, dealing 50 HP damage to them. (8 second cooldown)
Health Packs are hacked for 60 seconds (hacking Objects, BOB and Health Packs = 8 second cooldown).
Translocator: When thrown and deployed, lasts infinitely but can be destroyed. When activated, teleports Sombra to Translatocator. (6 second cooldown)
Invisibility: Sombra becomes invisible for 6 seconds and has 50% increased movement speed. Detectable by sight and sound (quieter footsteps than someone fully visible) if within 4m of the opponent. (6 second cooldown after stealth breaks)
EMP (Ultimate ability): Same effect as Hack but Sombra’s virus emanates from herself to opponents 4m or closer to herself. (0.65 second cast time and high-medium cost)
Passive “Opportunist”: Identical to original. If opponents have 1/2 or less than original HP, Sombra can detect them through walls.
Pro: Sombra will be subtle like the original. And this kit can be balanced because opponents will have most of their abilities intact. Balance = deciding which abilities should be intact and numbers.
Con: This version of virus may discourage opponents from working together. It could create a toxic environment in opponents’ team.
To overcome Con, I think virus should instantly spread when opponent is hacked. The virus should not spread during the rest of the duration of applied damage.
With this version, Sombra could be deadly sometimes and most of the time subtle. But I don’t know if my idea is good.
Edit: I think Blizzard will think of a much better Rework. But I hope my idea shows that some of Blizzard’s original published ideas were great!
