I don’t agree the consensus would be that it’s creepy or weird.
It’s a photo of his previous lover that he gave up purposely for Overwatch, & that he still holds some regrets about leaving.
He hasn’t really had a personal life since then & that is doubtless a further regret of his.
To me, regardless of gender, that’s sad & relatable to an extent - not creepy or weird. It’s just one of a giant collection of memories he has that have shaped the unfortunate circumstances he’s now in.
& for Soldier to be who he is & act as he does despite all that emotional suffering is kinda inspirational. Your emotional trauma doesn’t have to form your entire personality, we all have some & we can still do great things despite it.
