How would YOU change Competitive?

if (this.playerName == 'nisdec') {   this.srApi.setSrPerLose(0);   this.srApi.setSrPerWin(50); }

Yea, pretty much what I would do.

  1. Minimum leaver penalty of 1 hour.[1]
  2. Matches cannot be canceled by leavers after the doors open.
  3. No more SR penalties for leavers.
  4. Post-game breakdown of SR gains/losses and what stats influenced them.[2]

[1]“A murr murr murr mai internet did bad derp” you say. That may be true but network troubleshooting is long and complicated. In most cases an issue will last longer than 10 minutes. Plus quickplay, arcade, and custom games are all still open to you.

[2]Something something MMR not SR. At this point all of the assumptions people make about stats vs. SR gains are going to do more harm than the truth. If I gain more SR because of assists rather than objective time maybe that’s something I should know.

EDIT for clarification, also in later post:

your proposal is almost perfect. One more thing: change SR gap for grouping from 1000 to 300.

No. They probably are in the same mmr as you because they usually just mess around in quick play.

Toxicity is not as big of an issue as trolls and throwing. It may have been at one point but right now toxicity is at an all time low from what I’ve seen.

We have the avoid player and report system, but honestly we need to see more immediate results from these systems in a low priority queue. Frequently avoided/reported players should be forced to play with each other in a low priority queue. It would encourage reporting trolls and toxic players because if you’re not one of them, it gets them out of your games. High priority queue is reserved for players who actually want to co-operate and players who show an active refusal to co-operate are thrown into low priority, where they either have to go long enough without a significant number of reports/avoids or have to stay there for a period of time based on the volume of reports/avoids they received in an alotted time.

  • Make it shorter.
  • Remove the report function ingame. (Players can report other players in the “recent players” screen after a match in the main menu.)
  • Disable POTG after a match. (Players shouldn’t be aiming to get the “coolest” play in a competitive match. I’m not asking asking to turn it off. Just don’t show it anymore. Players can find it in the “highlights” menu.)
  • Adjust the season CP reward so there isn’t a big difference between bronze and grandmaster anymore. (Just make the difference smaller like 500 CP.)

I know a lot of players would disagree with me, but this is how I would change competitive play.

I would change the two player limit on Avoid Teammate, never understood it honestly. If you remove the limit, there is no downside to genuine players. If you avoid plays because you’re too stubborn, it will only cripple your experience, and as Daddy Jeff once said, “If you’re a bad person, doing bad things, we don’t want you in overwawtch.”.

Several ideas:

  • A clan/guild system
  • The ability to queue for a competitive game based upon the role you can play. WoW gives players the option to queue as a healer, tank, and/or DPS for arenas, dungeons, raids, and battlegrounds. OW would benefit from this. This would also resolve the issue with “one-tricks” (e.g. Getting three Widow mains on the same team)
  • The option to solo-queue. Rocket League offers players the option to select the type of games they get queued for. So if you’re running solo, you can solo queue and only be placed with other solo-queuers
  • More avoid tokens

The score board in Heroes of the Storm is good. It shows kills, assists and deaths like any score board but also shows hero damage, siege damage, healing and damage tanked.

It would not be hard to build something like this for OW. All it needs to include is the following:

  • kills

  • assists

  • deaths

  • hero damage

  • shield damage

  • damage blocked

  • healing done

With all the information provided you can actually see how well your performing. It would also help identify where a team is struggling and how your team can switch things up to improve mid game.

This thread is about what you would personally do to competitive, so I don’t think it’s wholly appropriate to criticize other people’s answers, but just from a personal perspective your version of competitive would be pretty horrible. People would have dedicated leavers on their team to escape SR loses and people would be so discouraged from an internet drop that they would abandon competitive all together. It’s just a poor way to build a mode you want your community to find fun.

Should probably also have armor provided, with the addition of Brigitte. Otherwise Brigitte will always look lackluster in the stats.

In Heroes shields provided is also included in the healing category. It totals healing and provided shields but you would be able to see what the differential between the two is in your own stat screen.

You can check armor provided if your playing Brigitte right now. You can also get a card for armor provided at vote screen.

I don’t think it is in this game though, which is why I mentioned it. I guess if they changed that as well, then it would be okay.

NOTE: I meant that Healing and armor aren’t combined currently in OW.

I must’ve worded things poorly. SR is still lost for the team if they have a leaver. What I mean is that the person who left does not suffer the additional 50 SR loss (just the SR for losing the match based on their stats at the time).

Also I didn’t mean to make fun of other people’s answers. I meant to make fun of people who blame disconnects on everyone but themselves. Whether you intentionally left or it was out of your control it still makes things awful for your former team.

With a groupfinder.
People regularly tell me I should just use a discord server or the forum’s lfg section, but

  1. I don’t understand why we can’t tailor the same systems to Overwatch and have them in the game itself
  2. I actually like playing with different people each time

It never takes me more than 1 minute to turn my model off and on again. Because of that I’ve never get any penalty, but if it takes one minute more for someone, it will be a too long suspension because of a problem which is already solved. Plus, if this is really a problem that persists, the suspension will increase anyway

Some players are against a role queue, but what if a group finder option in game asked you which role you preferred to play before grouping you with others? That would be a nice addition to what you are talking about, and helps form groups with more reasonable comps.

I would change the e to i in Competetive to make it Competitive.

Done.

In the suggestion I linked, that would be part of the feature, yes.
