How Will Story Missions Be Released? (speculations)

Could mean 2 things.

1 - They published information that was not correct, so they undid it.

2 - They published information that was not ready to be public, so they undid it.

At this point, its a rumour. All we know is Playstation Brazil claimed that it would be 2020 with no further source, and Blizzard said they expect that we will still be talking about OW2 at Blizzcon 2020 (I get what they mean, but we would be talking about it if it came out too.)

Yeah Activision is def rushing them to finish it ASAP and have it out prob for the holiday season 2020, spring 2021 at the latest. Which is a shame, not just because of the effects of crunch on developers, but because Overwatch 2 would work really well as a game released in episodes for a variety of business reasons.

First, it would go with the already established OW pattern of releasing content throughout the year, aka games as a service model. They could also advertise each episode in OWL/OWL in each new episode and maintain hype for a longer amount of time that way. Events in OW 1 could also tie into new episodes of OW 2, to give an incentive to people that plan to stick to only OW 1.

Plus, if the campaign isn’t going to be that long (like I suspect) and the gameplay consists mostly of what was shown at Blizzcon, it would be an easier sell than dropping a, presumably, $60 game that gets trashed for not being worth the asking price at launch. They could make later episodes longer and with more complex game play if there really is that much pressure to have something out by the holiday season.
