How was Dva not overperforming?

I know we don’t get to see the stats like the devs but she seemed incredibly strong, her bugged interaction with Juno was also absolutely insane.

Does this not show up in the stats as her overperforming?

I really don’t get it

My, completely baseless, guess is: D.va is meta > Everyone plays D.va > If both tanks are playing D.va, one of them has to lose > D.va’s win-rate remains stable.
That on top of the fact that non-D.va players were trying her out, losing teams might pick D.va as a last ditch effort, and the fact you can’t just win every time with D.va anyway, might contribute to that. The devs did know something was up with her, and it was unfair, because they nerfed her. So they have other types of data to look at. But it doesn’t really surprise me to hear them say that. They say that about every meta hero lol

High skill ceiling = most players can’t get her full value and therefore push her total performance down. Similar to Doomfist and ball

Because it’s normal for her to be #1 World.

Also, at least looking at overbuff, D.va IS performing better than other tanks when it comes to win rate. She’s at a general 52.41% this past month, which might not seem much but the only other heroes above her are Reinhardt, at 53.56%, and Junker queen at 53.70% (although she’s one of the least picked tanks, so it makes sense considering generally only players that know her well choose her).
So idk, maybe devs don’t consider a 52% win rate as too high.

Because perfect hero usage variety isn’t possible, and even if it was, it would be a waste to spend it on high ELO, rather than larger parts of the playerbase.

So the next best alternative is an “Ideal Pickrate Order” in terms of fun/fairness, and avoiding overly durable compositions and keeping Snipers in check (I.e. PermaDive meta)

And devs decided D.va was preferred over Winston, Ball, and Doom.

Along with a decent amount of Rein usage.

The devs only look at unmirrored games, they have mentioned this specifically to us before.

None of this “well if both teams have a dva” nonsense is true.

She apparently wasn’t overpreforming in unmirrored games in their opinion.

Maybe due to low elo counterswappers bringing down her win rate? Maybe due to only high ranks being able to fully utilize the speed ring bug?

We will never know

Everyone likes to play D.va. Some play her really well. Others, not so much.

That affects the stats, so we look a little closer.

If she were really overperforming, everyone should be benefiting with her, but it doesn’t look like her win ratings were dramatically improved.

But yeah, players were certainly complaining and Blizzard noticed so they adjusted her anyway.

It is like Sojourn. She performs really well in the higher ranks, but not everywhere else. She’s actually under-performing. So they need to adjust her without making her weaker in the lower ranks; that would mean adjusting how difficult she is to handle and play, but it’s actually kind of hard to do that. Make her Railgun wider, and that makes her even better in the higher ranks, so even though that would help the lower or less skilled players, it would also benefit the higher-ranking ones too.

They looked at gold 1/plat 5 numbers probably. “On average”

Exactly.

They look at winrate over pickrate / death ratio etc…

When a hero is overperforming you have very high chances of them being picked in both teams in most matches.

Meaning it will end up in a 50% winrate no matter what.

Or they could take the games stats where a potential overperforming hero is picked Only on one team and see their winrate in these scenarios.

Shes very popular, therefore everybody, trash players included, plays her.

Because your Dva can 50-5, make the entire enemy teams backline miserable all game and spawncamp the supports but still lose matches.

A singular hero being really strong does not guarantee wins even outside of mirror matches.

How is a Dva dominate enough to get 50 eliminations and yet somehow dying 5 times?

How does a tank get away with that? Or I guess maybe that’s how she died 5 times, actually…

I know, right? It’s wild how much influence dead weight has over you in this game. Legitimately crazy.
