Balance team is 4/5 stars. No major issues. They somewhat dropped the ball over the last 8 months. In part because changing ladder conditions. Forced, knee-jerk reactions to save an end-of-life product, losing clout to FPS genres. Felt like a make-work project, while rest of the team scrambles on OW2 content.
Then they became bffs with the content/owl/1% discord. That was a disaster. They need to stay true to the franchise and maintain classic Blizz appeal - accessibility, diversity, inclusion of a broad playerbase. Solve subtle problems don’t create them. And they could Q&A/AMA better using official forums instead of lolreddit/twitter.
No doubt it’s a hard job. Data from winrates/representation/dps/hps numbers. Daily noise from crybabies. Low-level examination of key interactions and breakpoints. High-level goals towards shifting the meta. Balancing viewership with playability for the masses.
Less misplaced effort. Their work is done within the context of a broken ladder system. Fix the ladder issues first. It’s the ladder responsibles who need to step-up or be replaced. Use cleaned up data from something that isn’t 4-years out of calibration. Then, gain clarity, realize OQ has ‘self-balancing’ meta properties. Or offer 2 patches. One for the top5% progamer aspirees, and one for the rest of us.
