How much has your rank moved since the reset?

been a while now…how much did you move?

I’d be curious to know but unfortunately I don’t have enough spare time to unlock new heroes on my alt account :/…

When F2P Overwatch started Competitive seasons from scratch (as if it were a new game when it’s not ), I retrieved the same rank I had when I stopped Competitive years ago, in October 2022 (low Master 3k5-3k6 => Master 4-5).

I stopped playing Competitive right away when my curiosity faded out. Haven’t played Competitive since late 2022.

I think my current rank would be lower 'cause I play less (completely lost all of my skill on Lucio for instance) and I’m less in a selfless mood, meaning I wouldn’t switch to Ana to get easier victories anymore (I just played her too much - I would probably onetrick Lifeweaver).

I think it’s best for the community if I keep staying off of Competitive

I haven’t gotten back to my rank. I’m hardly playing but I was GM2 a few seasons ago. I’m masters 2 after 8hrs or so in ranked

I noticed no reset. My games started out exactly where they left off. There was no reset unless you use a new account.

Don’t know, haven’t finished placements, nor will I. Not worth it in the long run.

I basically haven’t, and judging from the people I’m facing most haven’t. Masters 5-3, and consistently facing GMs/T500s. The game I rolled Jay3 in was M4.

Yea I’ve been on recent masters 4 teams with top 100s lmao (console)

So console is just as bad?

Yikes. They really need to fix this

Well I was diamond 2 on tank in season 8 but I hadn’t played more then placements since ow1. Now I am diamond 2 again after playing over a hundred games since season 9 started. The difference is that every game I’m playing with players who were masters in season 8.

Every profile I check that was masters is diamond now. The few s8 diamond profiles I was able to find are in plat. I checked profiles towards the end of season 9 but from what I’ve observed/heard it hasn’t changed.

If diamond truly is equivalent to masters now, then I hope they never do another reset again. I could have hit masters but instead I’m just the same rank. Except I don’t even know if I’m actually masters or not.

You might have heard an old joke about Dante Alighieri touring Hell and coming upon three pits full of burning sinners.

  • The first pit has a few bored demons with pitchforks lazily tossing an occasional climber back down. When Dante inquires about this pit, Virgil, his guide, answers that the pit is full of <here, the narrator of the joke inserts whatever nationality he deems to be orderly and law abiding> and they’ve been told to stay, so most of them obey.

  • The second pit is surrounded by demons shoulder to shoulder, soaked in sweat, constantly tossing climbers back down. When Dante inquires about this pit, Virgil answers that the pit is full of <here, the narrator inserts whatever nationality he deems to be rowdy and indomitable> and they’re hard to keep down.

  • The third pit has no demons guarding it at all and an occasional climber upon reaching the ledge seem to fall back down on their own with a shriek. When Dante inquires about this pit, Virgil answers that the pit is full of <here, the narrator inserts whatever nationality, usually his own, whom he deems to be stubborn, slow witted and individualistically self-serving> and they just keep climbing over each other, impeding each other’s progress and whichever one gets to the top, they get pulled back down by the rest.

Well, what’s happening in Top 500 is much like this last pit. When Blizzard did the partial reset, they’ve bumped everyone’s rank down a tier or two, but relative to each other they’ve remained on the same level. So high GMs who were now in Masters’ ELO were still playing against each other – with the actual Master players now playing against each other in Plat/Diamond ELO; and yes, the Bronze players got the short end of the stick with Silvers and Golds being dumped into their stew – which means that they still win and lose and keep trading rank points at a similar pace as before, with only the best of the best edging out to reach the top of their pit a bit faster. It’ll take time for all the Master players to gradually grind back up to their old ELO and displace/propel low GMs upwards, who in turn will propel more high GMs to GM1 and Champion tiers.

Was Masters 1 pre-season 9 (on support). I’ve since ONLY played damage in competitive so it’s not a great assessment, but after ~35 games I’m Diamond 5. Which is still too good for me haha; I’m more of a low Platinum

In OW1 I was gold with my peak being platinum playing Sigma exclusively.

heh im not mad or anything but the last 2 seasons as the dps role i went from gold 5 to plat 5. lost it all this season (currently silver 2) but i wont blame the matchmaker. i blame myself but maybe i have played most past midnight this season. past midnight maybe the game is a different beast lol. (never played past midnight comp in season 8 and 9) :man_shrugging:

also a sombra/widow main mostly so yea i just play those two (big reason probably)

edit:
also what skill is like in overatch with a music video… maybe?

Past midnight is true sweat mode but you will also improve faster.

The thing past midnight is it will have trouble finding bad players to pull you down, everyone is a sweat so you are more likely to face harder teams to make you lose, than giving you a bunch of noobs to carry and fail.

So it’s sort of like scrimming past midnight.

The only downside is your reflexes may not be on point as you go into the night esp since you play widow.

I’m kinda a night owl so my reflexes generally carry well till 2-3 am only after that I slow down.

I definitely find plenty of bad players to drag me down after midnight. The problem is totally not me, guys. It is always my teammates. I swear! Give me a good team and I will win. Seems simple, right?

You do get bad teammates. People need to stop pretending thats not a thing.

You don’t need a good team, just not a very bad one.

For me it’s less maybe it’s a SG server thing as our general populace is lower than eu or na, so after midnight it’s better

Trust me, I know. :weary:

Nobody is ever going to convince me that I am worse than the people in my lobbies unless they brandish a firearm and tell me to admit that I am the problem and somehow responsible. I will admit it with my fingers crossed, baby! :crossed_fingers:

Do not get me wrong, sometimes I am the problem. I was getting eviscerated just today. I wanted to play Doom, big mistake. I tried Rammatra because supposedly he is good against Mauga and I did not feel like playing Sigma. Decimated. I could tell I was a detriment and it was making me sad. I am usually top performer mega slayer baddie.

But not this time. I felt so useless. So I did the thing. The thing I rarely do. I humbled myself and went Zarya. Stopped them in their tracks. I was surprised because I thought the whole lobby was better than me based on how well I was doing (throwing). But they did not move the cart an inch after the swap. They even tried to swap to Sigma. No idea why because, like, what? Doesn’t Zarya counter Sigma? I have no idea. I never play Zarya and I hate playing against her as everyone except for Reinhardt.

I am cognizant of when I am the problem. And it hurts me, man. I feel like I am letting people down. So when I say I am rarely the issue in these horrendous games… I mean it. From the bottom of my heart. Buddha might be delusional, but we ain’t evah lie.

I struggle to find the motivation to finish my placements lol. But there’s definitely been a brain drain on all comp levels from post season 8.

I play at a Diamond to Masters tier depending on role and some games I just get thrown in with whoever because they desperately need a tank.

After the reset the rank system is just grindy as all hell. Ever win nets you less percentage then a loss and the only way to climb is having win steaks. I guess the DEVs were right when they said the placements are important because once you get your rank you are likely to never climbing out of it.

My support on my main is in plat5 but my alt is in diamond5 and my rank basically just goes down then go back up but almost never climbs. My other roles are in plat/diamond and those ranks are basically stay the same no matter how many games I play.

Rank honestly feels like a complete waste of time.

Support role got gutted with the dps passive, after which a flanking murder gopher got released and spawncamped half the support roster.

I’m predicted to drop by 5 divisions from where i was.
I’ll play again once all roles are in a better place.
