This is such an ironic comment.
From a forum that defends other annoying heroes with their chests, it’s ironic this is an issue.
To who???
Literally everyone who isn’t Sombra.
You’re just too lazy to get better at killing a sombra.
Zen, the character I have the most time on, does 150DPS with projectiles while Sombra does 170 with an idiot-proof spray and pray hitscan gun that allows her to abuse the hell out of ADS. His hitbox is also like twice the size of hers and her stealth invalidates strong positions, and she turns off my ability to Discord so it takes three head shots, or five body shots to kill her, and even if I win I won’t kill her because she has the world’s best get out of jail free card.
Note that’s the match-up with Sombra post nerf! Oh Sombra is also the only character who can delete Torb turrets (the best form of backline peel in the game) with zero risk.
Let’s see what nonsensical Sombra copium you can reel out to explain why I should be fine having to take match-ups like this (it’s worse for Ana by the way) or why it’s OK for a flanker to automatically negate tools designed to police flankers…
Dont play daft
Infinite stealth, free reset-the-engagement card and kit designed around cancelling and locking abilities, which are core gameplay elements? She and Mei can stay in the gutter forever.
overwatch players when a hero isn’t a basic long-range hitscan:
Sombra is anti-fun because she ignores game mechanics that other enemy characters have to play with. You never interact with Sombra until she reveals herself and when she does she always has control on the timing and spacing of when to do it. That’s why she’s a pain in the butt.
She’ll always be trying to get at you at the times its most inconvenient. You are busy fighting someone else. You are isolated. These are all situations that are extremely annoying because for any other character you can physically see you can start making preparations to say, “Oh, I can stand here wait for my team and they will catch-up.” Its Ashe, she has no mobility, so I can evade these corners and not get shot."
Much of this wouldn’t be bad if Sombra actually had to hard commit to a kill like this. However, she never has to hard commit. She always has the ability to escape whenever she wants near low death or not. You never get the satisfaction of killing this annoying bug even if they aren’t killing anything.
Depending upon her set-up point she can continually keep harassing people never quite dying as she can escape whenever she wants every 10sec or so if the set-up point for her is good.
Obviously, there is little you can do against an EMP as it straight up cancels out animations in process comes out quickly and can be denoated with a yolo translocate or a destealth midfight. Its not, Oh, Rein is getting aggressive lets pay attention to his position. You can’t with Sombra. She can plant herself anywhere and safe positioning doesn’t always exist in that case.
This is sombra’s core issue at any level of game play. The final bit of making sombra anti-run is against stronger DPS players. When Sombra destealths and hacks she’ll have likely canceled a key ability or noticed said support player used a much needed ability to stay alive. Sombra has 175 DPS with the ability to headshot. Most supports don’t have that level of aggression to kill. Kiriko/Brig/Lucio/Moira/Mercy/Ana have like 60-90 DPS which is dramatically lower than Sombra’s.
All this combines into a very annoying character to play against.
Cleansing hack is a rather horrible trade. Hack is a 4sec ability and Suzu 15sec that provides only a 1.5sec lock out period and like 8sec total dmg buff (for only Sombra).
You’d use Suzu to save someone from death against Sombra, but you’d never out right use Suzu on a hack target unless you predict an EMP coming.
I would love for op to play doomfist or wrecking ball in ow1 and tell me sombra is not unfun.
It’s crazy how everyone says with their chest what they think are concrete rebuttals like get out of jail free card and having perma invis and these stats pick rates win rates are just not supporting anyone’s argument. If she was so good just because she can be invisible people would literally pick her for comp, if she’s so overpowered she would always be in the meta. But she’s not and she’s always been the least picked character with the least win rate of them all. And people will continue by saying “it’s because no one knows how to use her.” As if she’s the hardest character to learn in the game. I reckon doomfist and Hammond will and have always been the hardest characters to use. And any hit scan if ur aim is trash which you don’t need perfect with tracking. And players like fitzy have shown that
Because her being good or not doesn’t matter in the context of her being unfun to play into. It’s completely irrelevant. Junk, Bastion, DPS Doom, Sombra and to a lesser extent Torb and Symmetra have rarely been meta picks. Yet most of them have been reworked because of how annoying and unfun they make the game for everyone else in the lobby.
A character doesn’t need to be successful to be annoying and hated to play against. The very early interview with ML7 and Geoff stated out right that no one wanted Bastion to be meta and he largelynever was except a small phase with pirate ship. He got a rework into OW2 and I think they were successful.
It was heavily alluded to that Doomfist DPS → Tank was modified for similar reasons and DPS fist was known to be quite bad never really being meta at all. Yet, got very drastic reworks and very dreaded to ever deal with.
Sombra fits into the same realm. A difficult to use hero that thankful is hard to use whichis why we see them so seldomly, but when they are around no one wants to deal with them. Even when bad.
Which all goes into the ‘anti-fun’ type of character to fight against.
In her current iteration she’s not anti-fun. They kinda really overnerfed her so she just kinda exists now.
Pre-nerf after changing to 5v5, sombra was horrendous though. Constantly being locked out of your skills while getting drilled for insane DPS as a support made playing the game miserable.
They really should buff hack in a way that keeps its current lockout duration, but tacks on an additional hindrance like no movement abilities for 4 seconds.
Oh boy, I sure can’t wait to use my abilities! I’ll be fine so long as I can use power blo- Initiating the hack
Her hack is too easy to land no aim required and makes it where people can’t use abilities in a ability based game. She’s bad design
i use to play her in overwatch to go against dive heroes. basically ruin their fun. heroes like doom, hammond, genji and anyone think they would have free rein with mobility. i loved to shut that crap down ![]()
wish mei had her freeze back sigh
Like before the nerfs or now? She was busted in season 1 and not very good now which is fine by me.
Hog stuns you for even less time, but that’s enough to send you to the respawn room.
I’ve been playing a TON of Sombra lately. And I’m getting really good at her. This is the most I’ve enjoyed Overwatch in awhile. But if I’m having a match where I’m doing super well with her, I definitely start to feel kinda bad.
Because while anti-fun is a stretch, she can definitely be super annoying to deal with.
She’s annoying and being hacked from stealth usually doesn’t feel good on the receiving end. And if you’re winning against her she can translocate away most of the time so they don’t feel they got value against her when they felt she should have died.
I don’t think people can come around to the idea that getting her to translocate away is still a good way to get value against her.
It’s just a “c’est la vie” kind of thing. Some people don’t enjoy Soldier, Junkrat, etc. and they may have different feelings on heroes based on their experiences. Can’t change their minds and there are things that everyone that plays this game may find annoying. It’s the nature of a game that has such a wide array of heroes. You’ll always have a few heroes who people find unfun.
At least it’s not a 5 second silence. That was anti-fun even when I’d get hacked by her. ![]()
