Well the devs tried a powerful version of valk and it was broken beyond everything the game ever saw. I have no idea myself how to make valk a powerful and interesting ult without breaking the game. Since I dont want Mercy a must-pick again I rather go back to a design that had less problems.
What should we do then? They said they would listen to our feedback so people started making threads with detailed feedback or how you call it “walls of text”. If they dont want that should we all just spam “#revertMercy” on end? Because that sounds way worse than detailed feedback to me.
If it was, then nobody would be complaining since Valkyrie is still bound to Q.
I disagree. Valkyrie in itself (fly + chain beams + longer ranges) is unfun. I don’t see how to make it fun without killing Valkyrie.
Where you see walls of text, I see very detailed thread that explains the issues.
Anyway, we’re on the forums, who even expect some acknoledgement from the devs ?
Eh, mass rez made the rest of her play feel better as you constantly had that feeling of building up to the big moment and how valuable gaining ult charge felt. And while her mobility is technically better, the fluidity was harmed by the slow and cast-time nerf to rez.
Plus, partly because of the value of mass rez and partly due to her having being much more vulnerable before GA buff and Valk, playing Mercy was just generally a much more intense and fast paced experience.
She’s always been a very popular character, but she’s on her tenth nerf, and people are demanding even more nerfs.
I came to Overwatch after the 9th nerf, that is the one before this recent one. I can safely say that she’s not as fun to play now because she’s a single target healer except while in Ultimate, but her single-target healing cannot win a tug-of-war against a decent DPS. You basically have a single-target healer who can’t keep her team alive like she could befoer the 10th nerf, the nerf was 17% less healing.
I personally one-trick Mercy, and this situation has forced me to keep on my toes much more than before, and I do win games. BUT, the price of this was that before I placed safely in Silver, now I am in Bronze. Probably won’t get out of Bronze, either.
Ultimately the game is about fun; I love Mercy and I’ll keep playing her. But, it IS true that while people before were scrambling to take Mercy first, right now I am not seeing that anymore. If they make a change to her later, I hope they reverse the 17% healing reduction, because I think at that point she was good to play and balanced. Now, I personally don’t think that balance is the same.
Yes, that’s the point with double edge sword mechanics…
On one hand it’s stronger, or the other hand it’s riskier. Which makes it balanced.
The Ult aspect is just because so many Mercy posters seem to be so focused on Rez being earnable. It’s really more of an aesthetic thing.
You gotta admit though, the interactivity of that Ult would be phenomenal. But the danger would be higher too.
On one hand you can zip around like a firefly on speed with powerful heals, on the other hand you’re going to need to, to get value out of the ultimate and not die.
Personally I found old mercy really stressful to play due to how important your ult was. In fact I’ll go as far as saying it’s then only thing that defined the hero. I find current Mercy more team orientated due to her having more utility, that’s why I prefer the current version for both playing as and with.
The main consensus is that pre-rework, Mercy 1.0 had a hero moment with her mass res that felt powerful and could actively change the tide of a fight. She pretty much brought no other utility to the fight besides her damage boost, so resurrect had the most power in her kit.
Fast forward to the Mercy 2.0’s and the Mercy 3.0’s, who still had the ability to change the tide of the fight in Valk due to the the insta res’s, so here she was still considered fun.
And lastly to the Mercy 4.0’s, who got nerfed into the ground, effectively making Mercy a heal bot. In 4.0, Valkyrie has literally no ability to change the tide of a fight, no instant reses, no extra charge, no increase in healing, damage boost numbers, etc. And now with her healing nerf, Valk charges slower on average, making Valk even more useless.
I don’t know if a lot of posters in here realize they confirm OPs basic argument that mercy did rely heavily on the impact of her ult to be “fun” and that her core kit has always been dull.
This hasn’t been my thought for a long time too- and while I definitely understand why it was fun, personally- I’d focus more on making all of a heroes kit fun
It’s not that she’s so much unfun as she is unimpactful. Her kit while is decent, her ult really is just a way for her to escape death. Her healing is inadequate, her GA allows for her to have phenomenal mobility and Rez just makes her a sitting target with High Risk and Low Reward. So it’s so much that she’s just not reliable anymore.
I can see where you’re coming from, but for me, the stress was a positive. To me, having a certain amount is essential for exciting game-play and current Mercy completely lacks any.
I guess she’s relaxing now? But personally, I’d just listen to ASMR if I wanted to sleep.
