How do I get better at Hanzo

Thanks for all the help guys, I’ll be sure to check this stuff out.

Have u ripped off the left chest section of ur shirts yet?

As the nipple is quite sensitive to things like the wind or latency and will greatly improve ur predictions

Positioning. Get used to the arrows travel time and get those flickshots down.

People may say “constant” pressure, but Hanzo doesn’t work well against aggression. He moreso prefers to be in the back spamming his arrows midrange in safety.

Remember a headshot off a half nocked arrow is CRIPPLING to majority of the roster and still OHKs the other half of the roster.

You. Need. To. Land. Your. Shots. You’re not going to do that if you die a lot and never practice how to cover angles or your positioning.

Position. Position. And again I will say it again POSITION. If you’re doing badly, its because you were in a bad position and made yourself an easy target. Be elusive anf smart with where and when you pick your fights.

Yes move with the team but not so far ahead it’ll make you ineffective.

Side tip. Sonic arrow is best used with a heighten gamesense. Don’t just spam it. Use it knowing enemies are around that cover and then anticipate when to toss an arrow out. Don’t just use your jump dash as a “get out of jail” card. Its range is short, it is predictable, and is best used to cover ground to retreat before getting engaged or to catch up to teammates. Yes use it when you’re in trouble, but keep in mind there is plenty of heros who can outspeed you. For storm arrows…don’t just spam it. Use it in a pinch or when you know you need that high burst, for breaking shields, fending off tanks, and flankers. 4 arroes shot quickly in sucession seems like a major dps boost, but its an emergency tool or used to ensure you can relieve pressure off yourself or your team. Then lastly, be creative with your dragons. A good way to use it is in a flank behind the enemy as they retreat from the sound of your voiceline or close the distance. A random dragon is HORRIBLE against a fully aware team. Use it when enemies are distracted or when you have a good off angle that’ll cover their retreat routes.

(totally real! ! !)

Agreed. Forgot to mention the ult but unless it’s a capture point the ult is almost always better put behind them due to the travel time. This area denial from a side flank allows your bow to shine as they’re trapped in a certain area that you can flick shots onto or use storm bow at head level. Have a good guage of if your team is ready to push in though. Sometimes you dragon and the team doesn’t take advantage of it at all.
Just gotta have that instinct of when the enemy team wants to back up.

Do what everyone the forums assume hanzo is played. Randomly shoot in a general direction and hope to get kills since its apparently soooo easy to play hanzo lmao. No in seriousness, you can start focusing on positioning. Thats one of the biggest things about playing hanzo, if you are out in the open you will die. Hanzo has a large hitbox and slows down before he fires making him an insanely easy target. Your next tip is to focus on keeping your reticle at head level, this tip literally applies to every hero in the game. From hanzo to cassidy to torb etc. keeping your reticle at head level at all times is a sure way to get easy kills regardless of what hero you play. This tip alone will get you far and you will get far more kills if you master this one tip. Prediction is important but not as important as you think.

When playing hanzo, your biggest targets should always be on players that are not focusing you. Straight up its far easier to snag targets that are not focused on you. Anyone thats focusing you will strafe and your shots will be a lot harder to land. I promise you if everyone was aware of the hanzo, people wouldn’t be complaining about hanzo and calling him Op on the forums. Alas most people on the forums are plat and below and will never ever bother focusing a hanzo which is actually his biggest weakness.

As for dragons, Ive always used it as a third ability over an ultimate. Don’t go for big boy plays, if you can kill even one enemy behind a wall and you know its guaranteed then go for it. People are sometimes dumb enough to go towards the person you tried to kill and die with them. Don’t use dragons if you have already won a fight, like if 2 people on the enemy got picked and your team is still alive then don’t waste it trying to get the kills. Save it for the next fight and start with the dragons on anyone hiding behind a wall. Dragons can also be used to zone out enemies in payloads during overtime. You may or may not get 1-2 kills during overtime, it depends on who you are fighting.

Hanzo is a high skill hero regardless of how the community sees him. You have to literally take into consideration arrow drop, charge time and distance. Never ever spam arrows! This tactic will work in lower ranks because these players are not aware or have no idea how to play the game. Once you reach diamond, spamming only reveals your position and makes it easier for the enemy to come after you and kill you. Hanzo is an assassin, you have to sometimes take flanks but always make sure you play near walls and health packs to succeed. Don’t take risky flanks vs genji, sombra players, they will have an advantage over you 70% of the time. Your best bet is to stay near your team. I hope this helps, Ive been a GM/top 500 hanzo players for years. Im happy to give advice to anyone that needs it. There is more to the hero than spamming shots and praying to get kills, the real hanzo players make their shots count and can be just as oppressive as a widow sniping you across the map in open areas.

You butcher your aim. The worse you are at aiming the better you’ll be with hanzo.

Basically boils down to understanding how to predict what those players you’re aiming at do. In otherwords, mindgames, bro.

Go to practice range and climb up the building that has the two bots shooting at two friendly bots. If you turn to face towards the spawn room you’ll see an enemy bot patrolling the platforms. These can simulate moving targets. Use these to see how the Arrows travel time varies at different ranges and while you are moving around.

Other more viable options are to search for “Aim Training” workshop codes that allow you yo train under various scenarios (Yoitube search)

hes a really hard character to exceed a baseline of value with. you have to have good reads on player habits, and then have perfect aim to seize opportunities. a little off on either front and the opportunity window closes.

anyone can spam down choke, anyone can panic flick, but to consistently get picks is extremely tough.

if your aim is good arrge’s youtube has great tips on how to find/create opportunities. i learned a lot about aim from his channel. he highly focuses on identifying vulnerable targets for example targets who dont know youre looking at them, among other things.

ngl i grinded a lot of hanzo to climb myself out of buttcheek ranks and what finally got me to gold was switching to ashe and what finally got me to plat was switching to tracer. aka yea i found my noob tracer easier than my 100hr hanzo.

He is a hard hero to one trick, you have to spend hours training aim before you can shoot pharah’s echo mercy, double jumping genji.

Positioning is vital to deal with enemy comp, hanzo is one hero that can play all ranges but has weakness in all ranges and you decide your range on opponent you face.

Against a cass you are better playing outside his fall of range, against widow it’s better to play close range

Also no combos like bodyshot meleee for tracer etc.

hes very rewarding to learn because you learn a lot of fundamentals about how to not make yourself an easy target. aka:

dont peek from the same place ur team is peeking or you will take a lot of arrows meant for them.
dont assume ur flank route isnt being scanned.
more that im too tired to think of.

stuff that u see when ur playing hanzo youre like “ah rookie mistake” you can assimilate to your own defensive game.

a lot of things that some of this forums’ members could afford to learn bwahaha
