How did we play D.va back in the day?

By having actual skill.

I think having less general mobility and damage flying around, baby dva lives longer

D.va has been always somehow a bad designed character for a tank.

Even in her current version she is very niche unless you’re playing at tournament levels.

plays roadhog  :face_vomiting:

Devs are running psyops to make people hate 6v6.

Of course Overwatch 0.1 is bad. It took at least a year for it to catch up to the playerbase.

Classic DVa is not unplayable, but you have to play her like a big DPS basically. You can’t challenge WM (at long range) or multiple opponents. If you stick with your team and don’t stand in the open, DVa is useful.

We knew, that this will happen, when they talked about bringing back 6v6 as a test, but I think, we secretly hoped that maybe there’s a 1% chance of Blizzard proving us wrong. Well, guess what, they made no limits last longer. After the 6v6 ā€œtestā€ they will just say that the players hated it, so 5v5 is the way to go.

I do not want to brag; however, everyone is better at Overwatch. It’s harder to play Reinhardt against people who actually know what they are doing compared to 2016. There, I said it. I am the BEST REINHARDT!

Or is it lack of sombi child hacking you and nana not purpling you , that cable man not punching through shield etc

They just have better easy tools now to harass rein than before, i think there were more noobs back then too for sure but I feel the main difference is the stuff that got added.

you had to play her more of a flank dive couldnt front line it as much as you can now. Ideally youd keep an eye out for single targets or an opening in the backline and go in with most likely a genji. The idea was that you took a lot of dmg but you could easily get out secure a kill and exfil before the rest of the team knew and just rush back to your support and get healed or go for a health pack. In the 6v6 test im still seeing so many dvas playing her like you can in 5v5 and just gettting annihilated so quickly. You gotta learn to play your corners a bit better and fly away when you start to feel the tides turning against ya.

In current day, Hog requires far more skill than DVas overbloated kit.

Yo, u cant just murder half the comunity and dev team in just one sentence.im calling the cops

How did I play early D.Va?

Back in the day, there was a reason 1 in 4 of my friends list was comprised of Mercy Mains. I did everything in my power to woo them over to pocket me. I went out of my way to protect them, I’d do weird stuff like fly up for them to GA up to, and unless I felt my presence was more important up in the front line to maintain my team’s position for the moment, I often went back to spawn to pick up my Mercys when they died during a fight.

Within a week, I had figured out I could just fly up to Pharah during her ult and make her kill herself. I quickly discovered the joys of ticking off McCree players when I’d eat up their shots by flying up and DMing them when they were initiated ult. Sure, I was a voice line spammer too (Used ā€œLOLā€ judiciously, umm, lol), but still… compared to just about every other D.Va player I ever saw in early Overwatch, I was built different. And it’s what quickly made me so attached to D.Va—and Mercy (I’d main her too for being similar to D.Va and for potentially being just as recklessly fun if you played your hand right). Blowing up clueless early OW players with her bomb was also indeed quite fun, but that was nowhere near what made her so much fun to me.

Playing most characters in OW1 revolved around standing way in the back and waiting for mercy to get her ult.

I mained her at launch. I mostly played her because back then, people were dumb, and her bomb could wipe out a whole team. Especially cheeky bombs that you lobbed over certain buildings or slid off walls, but now people know how to avoid it so her ult is nowhere near as useful or fun as it used to be.

It’s simple. Back then everyone else was also ā€œbadā€ and didn’t really know what to do. Most people didn’t know how to deal with other characters, it was chaos. People had way worse game sense, didn’t respect distance, were unaware of choke points, etc, etc.

Like - come one, every OG player remembers ā€œbush Junkrat stratā€ from Muselk? Good luck trying to pull that off now. And that ā€œstratā€ was relatively late to the party. On launch? It was disorder, there were people who were seriously yelling that defense heroes must not be picked on attack and so on.
