Then, he is not fine.
I’m perfectly fine with his current state…it’s the other DPS characters with extra health that Blizzard calls tanks that are the problem. He very clearly doesn’t match up with them, and that isn’t really an opinion. Again, it’s simple damage numbers. The people who say “he’s fine” always throw in a disclaimer that he isn’t like the other tanks. That’s exactly what makes him not fine.
The hero balance isn’t really too bad if we are being honest. The matchmaking is the worst part of the game atm.
What the bronze?

Yes, it takes immense skill to swing a hammer that goes through walls and does huge damage. Along with, of course, walking faster than any character in the game. Two firestrikes that go through shields, and a charge that pulls people in from half the map.
The issue with OW players is they’ve played so few games in their life. It’s just so clear.
he who that to which nothing applies, cares not.
This game is a lot easier to play when you just give up on balance. This game is never going to be balanced.
He is fine, it’s other tanks that are too strong.
I actually disagree. I’m a GM support player, and while everyone’s impact at that level is going to be higher than say, plat, I don’t think DF needs especial babysitting. That’s why they’re playing DF in higher SR; they’re (reasonably) self-reliant. A good DF knows when it is time to go in, how to escape, and when to come back. That’s how they got to that SR. A mediocre one goes in and does not understand the flow of his kit and either feeds, or loses too much health on the return to be able to survive the following engagement. So it’s not a critique on DF’s kit so much as players playing him.
You were right; DF takes a lot of skill to play well. That’s why you see a ton of him at higher SR; those players can play him well and are not as easily punished…and frankly, DF is one of the tanks that can get picks, cause disruption, has high survivability and gets solo-value. He is not nearly as reliant on his team as plenty of other viable tanks. I think this may be an SR related issue, to be frank.
DF at lower SRs probably does require a lot of resources to play, because the DF player (and the rest of the players in the lobby) are not as skillful. So he’ll need more healing, more follow up. But he has a really high skill ceiling, so he just gets stronger the better at him you get, and the higher in SR you go. That’s a healthy kit, to be honest.
There are different tanks to achieve different goals. DF and WB and, to a degree, Winston and Dva…they’re high survivability, versatile disruption tanks who require less baby-sitting than some of the others from their team directly, when they are played well. You need to know when to go in, what CDs to manage, how to get out, when you need to grab that health pack. That’s the concept around these mobile tanks.
Take Rein, Sig and Ram…they’re shield tanks, but they need to manage their cover, shield health and positioning a lot better. They’re the ones who actually need a lot more traditional ‘babysitting’, because they don’t have the movement of the others to escape bad situations. But they’re easier to play at lower SRs because their mistakes are much more easily forgiven by raw healing output. DF, WB, Winston and Dva are hard to heal, and need to be a bit better at the game to get that same level of value, which is why they’re better tanks at higher SR. That’s why we have difficulty levels, tiers and curves on heros. Skill floors and ceilings.
I used to believe that Overwatch was the easy shooter. But then all the new players ranked bronze. Turns out the knowledge requirement for Overwatch is probably greater than most shooters on the market.
I’m what world does rein move faster than anyone else he has the same movement speed as every other character (except tracer, genji, Lucio) unless your talking about his charge which is fast sure but is also cooldown based limited range with a big wind up time.
As for his damage he’s a melee character he has limited movement options he needs that damage and you kinda deserve that damage if you get within his range.
Sure he doesn’t really require mechanical skill but there is more skill expression in ow than just raw aim.
There are far better examples of Blizzard’s lack of caring about balance.
Like Bastion, for example, who is still way, way, way too powerful. Or turret heroes not being looked at, despite how OP they are.
But I can assure you that Ramattra, at least, does require some skill. As I’ve come to learn.
