She was originally released as a completely broken best dps in game best tank in game best support in game. Makes me wonder how many people here actually played this game when brig launched. She was so broken it immediately put every dive hero into F tier and hanzo zarya became meta because every team was so stacked with brig armor that the only way to kill anything was with grav drag combo. Seriously every team was just nonsense spamming until a team got grav drag.
Brigs original design was the biggest screw up in competitive game history. They nerfed armor globally AND reworked torbs ult into nonsensical goo just to counter their brig atrosicty and she was still op so they had to make dramatic nerfs to her survivability.

If it’s any consolation, I was there when Brigitte was released… though, I was mostly a Mei player back then, so GOATs was kind of just the best time for me: a composition that revolves around ramming into the enemy team against a hero that wants that to happen. It was quite hilarious.
Agreed, they should’ve temporarily disabled the hero so they could properly adjust her, but this company isn’t really known for addressing things in a timely fashion. Release Brigitte was definitely in need of adjustments, and I’m still baffled it took them half a year to even consider addressing her, and it never crossed their mind once to just disable them until they could figure out what to do with the hero…

But she is fine in the lower ranks too. Her being misplayed =/= her being bad. Tracer isnt that successful in low ranks either, that doesnt mean tracer needs buffs. Brig can actually just deny everyone in low ranks since their mechanics arent the best yet u need to bash flail and whip to get mad value. Positioning and awareness are very low at below plat tho.

Her playstyle has completely shifted from queen of the 1v1/Raid Boss, to bodyguard for your other support.
You will get insane value if you just sit on top of your Ana/Zen/Bap and babysit them while flicking health packs to DPS.
Let them carry heals/damage while you deny the dive/flankers.

Yup I climbed out of gold on an alt playing brig only. It’s sitting at 3300 rn (my main SR). Playing Brig in lower ranks is easier because they don’t know how to capitalise on her weakness (long range poke damage and and focus fire).
If anyone thinks she’s bad, they really just refuse to learn how to play her. She’s the most busted main support with such high peel potential.

Yes Tracer is not as successful in lower ranks but she sees more usage the higher you go in rank. That is not the case for Brig which has been consistently rarely used until GM. Even Master does not use Brig that often.
Now popularity may play a role but I do not know a way to separate popularity to get to a heroes truer stats.
There is a leeway in other supports that sees them used across ranks. This leeway is not inherent to Brig. Even when played incorrectly, players in the lower ranks find more value playing other supports.
I am not saying she is bad but I would like a rework for Brig.

I think people are putting Brig and Sombra in the same boat because both of them require loads of coordination from the team.
However, in ladder Sombra is much harder to get value then Brig, I agree with you there.
Honestly D.Va, Brig, and Sombra are in the same boat. Great pick with a coordinated team; questionable pick on ladder.

The problem with brig isn’t the character, it’s the player who thinks they can still play like the old brig and frontline, then proceeds to die and call her useless.

I find it interesting now that moira and lucio get more in the fight than brig, despite brig only having 6 m range.
To be fair , your question was already answered in the post. Because lower ranks don’t know how to play Brig, and think she’s a raid boss.

Her long range damage with whipshot is only good in terms of burst damage, but long term, considering its on a cooldown of 4 seconds thats 17.5 dps per second, which is even less dps that any other character does with basic melee attacks which calculate to 20 dps per second.
Although booping someone off could also mean 600 in one shot, so there is that.

You can learn how to play Bastion as best as possible and there will still be better options out there.
You are wrong. Brig is OP.
Comparing to mercy: it becomes really hard to not die to skilled hitscans and their auto aim ults, also often times to get max value out of valk you need to pistol people.
Comparing to lucio: Not even going to bother.
Brig is a very badly designed hero that you can get way to much value on for less skill compared to the other main supports.
