Honestly he is a necessity when your team isnt synergetic.
Its certainly more nuanced than that. Region has been shown to have an impact on ladder results. I remember a few seasons top 500 tank players were rein/zarya in EU/NA, but Asia kept running Winston instead. Bronze is different than gold and GM and OWL.
Generally, people will prefer to pick what they like playing over what’s meta for their ranking. Playstyle usually trumps what wins more. Though people will second gravitate towards what helps them win afterwards as losing generally means a bad time if what they like playing doesn’t pan out.
mine used to be Hog, Hanzo and Zen, but ever since OWL Genji buffs, Ive kinda forgotten about hanzo and I complain about genji instead.
But Hog and Zen have always stayed there
