Higher ping than usual

Its happening again, the third time, my ping used to be 80 on pse1 which is the singapore server, now even on pse1 i am getting 200 ping, no i am not getting connected to the wrong server like i used to, this time the ping is just higher on the right server. I know that Overwatch servers are being hosted by Amazon Web Services, i tested the ping to AWS and i get 200 ping to singapore, which is the same as OW. I am aso experiencing this with Fortnite and Realm Royale, which are probably hosted by AWS. Ive tried resetting my router but it didnt work, yesterday my ping got back to 70, then a few hours later it got back to 200. Now i can only play with VPn

LonelyTony,

Can you please run a WinMTR test during a normal quickplay game with high ping? You can get the IP of the server you’re on from the netgraph (Ctrl+Shift+N) in game. There’s more instructions in that link above. Once you’ve done the test, post the results here. I’d like to see if there’s a problem with the path you’re taking to get to our servers.

Here it is

You live in Vietnam correct? According to your WinMTR, the traceroute seems to be sending you the North Amercian servers after bouncing around in Hong Kong for a bit. My guess is that the network routing in Hong Kong is messed up and the Singapore servers are not accessible to you at this time.

Ye i live in VN, even when i connected to Singapore which was like yesterday, ping was still 200

Well my best recommendation is contact your ISP, its not their fault, but explain to them their network providers can’t reach the closest servers quickly. Share the WinMTR with them as well.

How about this, so blizzard servers are hosted by Amazon web service, there is this website called cloudping that allows u to see ur ping to their servers, my ping to singapore is 200, same as overwatch when i connect to pse1, but when i use vpn, my ping goes back to 80, same for overwatch. So is there a chance that my isp is the problem?

LonelyTony,

If a VPN resolves the latency, you can be almost certain the problem is the path you’re taking to the servers in some regard. If we look at your WinMTR, we can see this. I’m just going to show you a specificclips

static.vnpt.vn 0 344 344 14 17 120 15
223.119.6.10 0 344 344 85 122 269 133
223.118.10.173 0 343 343 126 320 544 328

If you look at that underlined column, you go up 300 MS in 2 hops, which is extremely bad latency. This column is your average latency which means on average you’re going up 300 MS on these two hops. It’s not just little spikes.

You’ll want to show this test to your ISP and let them know that there’s some kind of congestion or routing issue here. In many cases you’ll need to talk to a level 2 or level 3 technician so they’ll understand the connection tests. In the mean time, you can use the VPN as a work around, because it is making you take a different path to the servers.

I fixed it, by unplugging my router, at first i left it unplugged for 5 minutes, then i found out that people suggest that i should leave it unplugged for at least 30 minutes, i left it unplugged overnight and plugged it back in. BOOM ping goes back to 80. Thank you for trying to help tho.

I am from Singapore, and I have been getting inconsistent ping as well for the past week or so. Usually I get 20ms, but recently I have been getting 80-100ms. Sometimes it goes back to 20ms, but later on goes back to 80-100ms. I also had the same problem with OP initially when the game routes me to a wrong server in Virginia instead of Singapore, but nowadays it doesn’t seem to have that problem.
