High Latency In Overwatch Only

I have had high latency in Overwatch ONLY for weeks now, but just this last week it has been unplayable. Overwatch is one of the few games I enjoy playing right now.

I have done literally everything step-by-step websites say to do about this issue, everything YouTube videos tell me to do about this issue, and NOTHING works. So that is why I’ve posted here.

Tried to play today and my ping fluctuates between 108 MS at the lowest and around 150 at the highest, and when I load into games/maps it’s around 260 MS.

I have done the WinMTR stats but I have no idea what they mean.

I literally found them replying to a post that doesn’t even belong in Tech Support, and even to some others who have high latency issues with them actually telling them what the issue is, but I’ve posted FOUR TIMES with zero help.

I help on threads where I think I have valuable input or even guesses, but I don’t have any quotas to meet for how much I help, or where, since I’m not a paid staff member. And since I’m located in the US, I wouldn’t see EU forum posts since I don’t monitor that site.

In other words, no one intentionally ignored you, there was just a misconception about guaranteed responses. Hopefully this cleared everything about that part up.


The test results don’t show pings reaching 260ms, but they are providing enough information for me to tell you what the problem is: Grande Networks.

The majority of the lag is happening inside their network and peering partner, before reaching Blizzard’s servers. There are other forum posts related to this ISP, and a Blizzard staff member confirmed in one of them that other players connecting to Overwatch from that ISP specifically are seeing high ping times. Unfortunately, it’s something you’ll have to work out with the ISP.

In the meantime, a temporarily VPN might help to get around their routing problem, but that’s not something we can assist with choosing or setting up on this forum.

Thanks for the help, it’s unfortunate that nothing can be done right now for a definite fix. I’ll try and let the ISP know, and I guess try out a VPN and see how that goes.

I was doing another test a few minutes ago because I read that using the practice range for WinMTR isn’t the best, and my latency was 102 ms at the lowest and only around 115 ms at the highest. Which is playable, but as I said before it was fluctuating before so no idea if it’ll continue to be somewhat stable or become so bad I dc again.

Unfortunately, only Grande will have answers about when a fix will be implemented.

I’m currently waiting to talk to their support. Can I just send them this forum post or do I send the WinMTR thing only or what do I send?

Forum alerts aren’t always instant, but the WinMTR would be okay. Or you can link them the thread, it doesn’t matter.

As another grande customer, this change in route happened back in December for me. I’ve contacted them over a 20 times and they just do the normal walk around. I’ve asked repeatedly to get it escalated. It’s always when getting routed through that rcn hop.

Just for reference here is the route I used to be on (and was briefly yesterday), versus what I’m on 99% of the time now. A vpn has fixed the issue for me, but I’d prefer not to pay even more on top of my ISP bill already.

It is indeed frustrating, and the ISP just isn’t giving answers unfortunately. Hopefully, if enough of us can bring it to them then they will do something, but from what I’ve heard the last month or so it doesn’t seem likely at this time.
