Hidden private (both Sides)

A lot of people are one-sided on the issue of private profiles. I’m just going to leave what I think the arguments for both sides are. Private profiles vs Public profiles

Private Profiles:

  • Allows players to play different characters
  • No judgement from teammates based on history
*Private profiles can be countered by communication
*People being able to access player history will cause toxicity
*People that want access to the information are entitled to know the information

Public Profiles:

*Communication is not always an option (especially for console)
*A competitive game requires people to play classes that they’re used to
*People could lie about the characters they play just to get to play who they wanted to
*People who would try to use the profiles to play around teammates couldn’t do that anymore

I have yet to see a reasonable argument for making the profiles public. Every argument is so easily countered.

  • The profiles were ONLY used for stereotyping.
  • A competitive game doesn’t require people to play their best. If they don’t live up to the standards in their rank they lose sr and drop in rank. If they are sufficient with their chosen hero and win, they gain sr. Players will get a feel for their own performance.
  • Players who want to play around their teammates can still do so. It’s called asking - either in voice or by text chat. They could also simply press tab and use their own eyes.
  • Players can still make their profile public. You simply can’t force anyone to do so anymore. Too bad huh?

Another side effect is going to be if my team has more public profiles then technically we are at a disadvantage since enemies can get a rough idea of our comp based on hero play times.

My issue is they auto make it private, like I don’t mine if people see my profile but because other people do, ill have to go through setting to change it even though it was originally public.

If you make your profile hidden then you shouldn’t be allowed to see anyone else profiles. There should also be a 24 hours cooldown on toggling it from one to the other.

True on paper there is no reason for a public profile, in actual comp it may be different. It depends really on how much a team communicates as to whether or not the profiles have a reason to be public.

in actual comp you can request it. It doesn’t aids you in any way. In what way do you gain anything from knowing what heroes your allies has played? It doesn’t change their gameplay in the current game. It doesn’t change their hero and it doesn’t disable your ability to politely ask what they feel comfortable on?

If there is someone who plays the hero I selected and they can’t communicate with me that they play that hero then it would be useful. It happens a lot on console.
