Hidden Changes made to Matchmaker?

Hello my friends, I have some new information for you. Remember when this new patch come in there was some problem with the matchmaker where it was not counting wins or loss, some say the matchmaker showed they were in placement matches and some other bugs…well I believe major changes have been made to the matchmaker because of some data recorded by multiple friends. I am asking if any of you have notice some abnormal behavior, a long string of losses or extremely easy wins? Can you suddenly not get to tiers you could previous?

I am capturing some data from multiple people and they are saying this such so please give me your input. Right now I cannot say anything for certain it is only speculation but I am trying to find out more. Please give your opinion

When the warning appears saying that the season will end in 7 days people get desperate and those who didn’t do the placements are doing now. These people don’t really try to win and/or tilt easily. End of season is pure trash. All my games have been a stomp, either my team rolls the enemy or them roll us. Always one sided.

i check my overbuff stats and it says top 1% for many things but i lose constantly

My friend, you have drop 2 entire rank? This is the largest drop I have recorded yet, the other people have all drop an entire rank. I have also noted that some big streamers have been complaining of loss streak but I think they win it back.

I have been told a new patch went in yesterday, I am only guessing that they are modifying the matchmaker again because it has been so outrageous, can you come to please tell me if you are suddenly on win streak where games feel easy? Your profile does not let me see your comp rank - thank you!

I have seen a pattern in updates where after update a large group of people have loss streak, and then they update again two week later or so and they have this big win streak. They move people around at end of season.

Several times in the past couple weeks ive wondered “what is this matchmaking” not because of losing or winning abnormally but there seemed to be a larger sr gap than “normal” (or that i have seen since the change in January) with random higher rank players (not in a group) getting into my games.

None of these players were beyond the 1k limit for grouping but its still unusual to see a 1500+ player in a 900 rank game. Obviously this is at the extreme end of the ranks so some weird things might happen but it has been somewhat consistent since January.

Ive also seen this week in streams a few very high rank players get placed into groups with people they would not be able to queue with normally. I fully believe they are making unannounced adjustments to the matchmaker in reference to how far apart in sr they will place people into groups.

Well, I am climbing… this is abnormal.

Thank you, have you been on a streak in either direction or has it been back and forth like 50% wins?

I was on a losing streak from 2650 to 2350ish. I won a few games in between. I stopped playing after reaching 2500 competitive points for the golden gun as I will get another 500 for being placed on Plat.

I have noticed all of the above. If you are not familiar with how MMR works in this game, you should definitely start there with your research. It’s the hidden mechanism that allow various actual skill levels to exist at the same SR. It groups good players with poor players to “ease the gaming experience” of the majority (casuals). It’s the most dishonest system I’ve ever seen in any competitive game and is mostly responsible for the anomalies you’ve mentioned.

Can you explain this more? Is this the handicap system that Cuthbert speaks about? Is this what you’re talking about here?

Here’s an example of something that can happen if we assume that there is a variance of 250 equivalency points between MMR (the primary driver behind matchmaking and how good the system thinks you are at any point in time) and SR (the rank we see):

Player A has an MMR of 1750. Player B has an MMR of 2000. Player C has MMR of 2250. All 3 have a visible rank of 2000 SR, despite all three being viewed as slightly inequal players from a matchmaking perspective.

Conversely, you can reasonably end up with situations where the matchmaking system believes a Silver player is as good as a Gold player in some circumstances, even though we’re conditioned to think that the Gold player is automatically better. 2250 SR and 1750 SR could both have 2000 MMR and end up in the same match, with the matchmaking system viewing them as equals.

Now, we don’t know what the variance actually is, nor do we know how much of a variance between SR and MMR is expected between people that consistently play. So, what I’m describing could be normal, or it could be an example of a “worst-case” scenario. It’s hard to say, honestly.

Some people despise the system due to this possibility, although the intention behind its existence is noble, in that it is meant to give you higher quality games on average that simply matching people based upon their SR.

The very same issue here. Ended in Plat a few seasons ago, now I am in high Silver and keep dropping. Hurts morale to say the least.

I understand what you said here. Have you experienced a difference in the matchmaker since the patch? Do games feel different to you in any way?

Usually endseason has 3 types of players:

A) Last chance tryhards

B) Last chance casuals, who are worth as much as a sub 10 games played player can be.

C) Bored support mains trying to dps.

Over last weekend dropped 300sr fell from gold to silver. Since the weekend ive won 3 matches and the games fell like trash. One sided rolls, every once in a while theres a solid game. Idk if its a combination of end of season and changes to the matchmaker or what. At 50% win rate i climbed 320sr now im at 48% im 50sr above my placement. Its frustrating to say the least. Ive played around 300 games this season.

I can’t say that I have experienced any difference, but I also haven’t played much this season. Additionally, I try to avoid playing competitive at the very end of a season like this. So, even if something did change, I wouldn’t be someone to notice it. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
