Hey Jeff, Can you explain why you are slowly but surely gutting the Tank roster

Depends on what you define as this year. This year could refer to the year 2021 or it could refer to the previous 12 months.

Tanks are the blood of every team. Which is why they often cause the most balance problems.

No it wont because compared to the likes of COD & Battlegrounds of the world Overwatch is a poor FPS it is niche they would lose more sales just on that

People that play FPS dont want cartoony FPS they want a little more realism that why alot of FPS player don’t touch overwatch

This game will survive sticking to it’s niche & starting to actually balance the game instead of letting bad dps run it

Jeff told me hasn’t looked at this forum since July 2019. Don’t waste your time. In the cafeteria Jeff and Geoff like to read posts from here on “nerf this” or “buff this” or “bring back mass rez” and they cackle and snort soda out their noses. Its grand.

bruh i hope you realize this is what makes the game healthy, right? tanks are supposed to be the ones dictating the meta and be the most influential role in the game

You would think tank players would appreciate shifting the power away from sigma and ball so they can start playing more heroes.

Wait, they liked the crutch, nvm. Continue your crying session.

I mean, ironically, supports is what’s hurting tanks the most. If Brig is meta, Lucio isn’t, and half the tank roster depend on speed, (Rein, Zar. Dva). Baptiste’s immortality counters shatters, bomb, grav, his ult is a Rein destroyer, and Zen/Mercy poke is good.

Yes poke DPS like hitscans and Echo need to be tuned down, but fundementally if we want tank to come back, we need Lucio to be viable again.

oh and also revert the hanzo buff, he needs a buff but that’s not the one, it only hurts tanks in the long run

Jeff states:

my personal feeling is that i would like to see less barriers and cc and see the game trend slightly more in the fps direction than the moba direction

then below Geoff states:

Interestingly, on our list of experiments to try is to make the game significantly more lethal than it is right now. I’m not sure how it will play out (we haven’t tried it yet), but the goal would be to allow for more ‘carry’ potential, as a great player would be able to more easily 1v2 or 1v3 enemies.

Healers and tanks have no place in their dps centric vision.

Likely going to become the norm in OW2 (as u can only do major changes during that kind of release and prolly why its taking em ages)

they want a fps where dps is front line everything

Because of Role Queue.

Before RQ, someone would just resign to play tank. If you give the people the option to never ever play anything other than DPS, many will embrace it, no matter the cost.

I’m on the side that also think Role Queue was a terrible design move away from the original spirit of Overwatch. People who wanted a more organized way to play the game already had it (scrims and tournaments), and Blizzard only needed to improve LFG for the general public, and making a guild system that allow you to play in a team of not-randoms more often.

People arguing for role queue back in the day sounded like people complaining about a visual novel having too much text, or a roguelike being just playing the same dungeon over and over again. It’s less “the game is bad for that” and more “maybe that’s not the game for you”.

This is how it’s supposed to be in an objective based shooter. Tanks are supposed to do that because technically, they are supposed to technically be the leaders and rocks of the team.

both of these comps were anti hanzo widow. stop playing goats and you go back to the best widow wins, and as much as goats was hated, widow games were hated more.

Well because Hammond is already difficult to kill when he can just press E and get anywhere from 400-600 HP, which is difficult damage for a lot of DPS to reach. McCree right click barely touches 400HP shield buffer.

Sigma needed shield nerfs because of double shield. That’s the only reason he got nerfed. He should have been nerfed way before the long list of Orisa nerfs she got.

They’re planning to drop all the classes. Soon every character is gonna lose their abilities and guns, which are gonna become a pick-up on the map, and the game is gonna become like Quake 3 Arena, with heroes being just skin.

No reason to bash dps players to cause even more hate. It’s not really their fault. It’s the idiots who post “NERF HOG, HES OP” or “Nerf Winston he’s too good in 1v1’s”
It’s blizzards bad balancing. A great example was the hanzo buff. He was meta 2 months before the buff… but… why not buff him? Blizzards thought process…

The issue was that LFG was garbage, and there was every sign they were never going to fix it.

RoleQ was the LFG most people wanted, and sure as hell, it was the best we were going to get.

They COULD have make LFG+, but ultimately, it would have ended up looking a lot like roleQ for most players.

There are ways to fix LFG, and I did offered a lot of options back in the past. Not worthy repeating now because it’s clearly an artifact system that the devs want to never touch again. It’s only used for roleplay rooms and derankers.

But just to give an example, they could give a daily XP bonus for people who completed a few matches with a partner found in LFG, with the bonus scaling with more party members. Don’t need to be a linear scale, you can reward people who duo proportionally better than full team, but this would make people make use of the system, and turn it into an habit.

Which is true, and a good reason to nerf them.

But why nerf their tanking? That’s like nerfing a DPS damage output first, and in turn rather buff their healing or support powers. That’d seem a bit odd for a DPS, no? (And in fact the game has steadily moved the opposite direction over the years)

And while it’s one thing to focus DPS characters more on their damage, wouldn’t naturally Tanks and Support need to focus more on their, well, tanking and supporting?

This would also have the upside of decreasing overall volatility as tanks and supports aren’t “extra DPS with some garnish on top”, but actually focused on their role.

Completely subjective. I don’t find it particularly enjoyable when a game is lost because a tank player pressed Q.

Because Esports.

They want a very fast Time to Kill. Which will create more flashy highlights for their precious esports. And they think that will bring in more viewers.

Strong tanks that take too long to die will slow down the TTK.

The actual playerbase is second priority at best. This game is heavily Esports focused.
