Hero pools vs Hero bans or OWL vs. Playerbase

But ultimately one choice will be “best” and people will be furious if you don’t ban it, even if they have different ideas about what it is.

yea as i said only for first pick maybe 2nd. there will be no “best” everyone is going to ban different on later picks. early might be the same but not late.

this will only happen if there was a 1 hero limit. if both teams can abuse it then its ok. pretty sure no one is going to be mad since both teams can do it.

like who in there right mind would ban tracer when there is no skill brainless brig in the game. there is just soo many ways to make tracer useless, good dva like back in the day. brig doing her armor thing. sigma, easy to land hits/basically has DM too. tons of CC.

u need to ban right to make her a must pick really. which would bring in banning strats. smart people getting rewarded. bringing in another layer to overwatch being as simple as it is.

Oh you sweet summer child…

When did he say that? Even if he did, maybe more people liked the rework than than those that didn’t, and it is the vocal minority who appear on the forums.

Any character can be “viable” to use if you practice and get good at them.

technically different players have different proficiency

and there is a benefit to knowing different heroes as one week soldier might be a weaker answer but another he is a stronger one.

since the bans come from popular heroes it is by definition controlled by players, just not individually.

a good idea that can be implemented but they are trying it out, they might add that later.

with the exception of picket picks and strats, we will get what we have in LoL, a ban meta.

this will happen and you will lose anyway, it would just be another hero. overwatch nowadays requires a 2v1 for a guaranteed advantage, other then that it is up to skill and a few match ups.

Designing systems around people not working in t[quote=“Azmuel-1621, post:67, topic:453820, full:true”]

Main tanks in general require less technical proficiency, yet they are the ones who define the comp. Ban even one tank and you drastically narrow the viable comp pool which results in more mirror matchups.

It’s more likely we’ll experience people abstaining from the game for a week until hero pool shifts and that in itself will increase player drain.

Yes, but that is a terrible way to go about it. For example; both Genji and McCree had consistently high pick rates not because their OP - but because people love to play them.

Blizzard has a terrible track record of reverting … anything though.

Ban meta is dependant on elo though, and it takes a while for the ban meta to form. Pro ban meta is not going to work on ladder for most part. Furthermore, people can always form groups and ban a non-meta hero to shake it up. Hero pools do not solve the meta problem.

Not true. Losing isn’t the problem. It’s the inability to do anything about X hero because you don’t have a Y hero on your team or you lose to X hero because there isn’t enough coordination at Y elo in general. This is especially notable for Tank role, which is the least played role.

Are you kidding me? It’s exactly the opposite. Lower ranks don’t usually play the meta as much, they can’t do so effectively. For Lower Ranks the meta matters a lot less than for higher ranks

That’s my point. Game is in a decent place right now in terms of what is viable. You can run a lot of different comps for most part and still have a chance to win in most elos where majority of players play.

By introducing hero pools you reduce the number of viable comps which promotes mirror comps in lower brackets.

In higher play, it’s always been 2 (max 3) tanks, 2-3 supports and 4 or so DPS that get played more than the others by a large margin and 1-2 per category being must picks in every category pretty much. so I welcome hero pools.
And before people moan about it too much. Let’s just test it for one season. Jeff stated clearly that they are very open for changes and a possible removal of the feature if it isn’t going well.

The Virgin Hero Bans: Boring, unnecessary fights and banns.

The Chad Hero Pools : No more lazy combos like Baptiste-Bastion/ SYmmetra-Torb/ Zarya-Rein. Players will be forced to main more than just 1 hero.

A ENTIRE WEEK WITHOUT MEI!!!

They’re both bad systems. Balancing heroes is the only way

Too bad we don’t have different Queues for Solo Q and Team Q.

In addition to that, people wouldn’t pick what is “Meta”, they would pick what is “annoying”. And it would make it much more of a chore if someone’s best Hero or favorite Hero is constantly banned because some crybabies now have the ability to remove them from the game. The “tried and true” games you talk about earlier in the thread actually prove this instead of disproving it.

sorry this is all out of order, but i wanted to consider each point and come with a coherent response.

you should see the power of a crowed over individuals, a crowed tired to guess the weight of a cow once and no single person got it right, but the average was perfect.

also blizzard is choosing, so it would probably be meta heroes anyway.

at first probably, but i think it will be better for long term.

well no with the exception of orisa you can do any strategy with other tanks, sub rien for sig for rush. bunker is only one without a substitute.

true, but this announcement came after them saying they will be willing to do more reverts in the upcoming season if it is necessary.

it is true they dont solve the whole problem, but hero bans wont either. every solution creates other problems and we either are willing to accept it or not. you are right that with ban it will auto adjust as you go up the ladder, which is why i like the tier specific pools you mentioned.

people suck, back in all que days i would flex all the time to counter things, and it got me very far into mid diamond. but that issue will not be solved by having bans. yah you banned 1 or 2 problems like you mentioned, but there are at least 6 or 7 and skill on both sides is a factor. i simply dont see either pools or bans solving this. but balance might, and they promised us more of it.

the point is diversity, you are reducing them for 1 week, next week it will be different.

also this system will help veteran players who played in all the metas from beginning as now that experience means something
