It seems like it should be pretty easily accomplished by simply restricting IP addresses to only have 1 account. Its not as easy to change the IP on a console, but it would cut it down severely to make it a lot harder to have more than one account.
Another incredibly simple change that could be made (and I’m sure has been suggested numerous times) would be to increase the level requirement for competitive mode to 50 or even 100. It wouldn’t stop smurfs, but it would absolutely make it so you’d have to spend a lot more time on the game to get the account leveled up properly. Or would that just cut down on the number of copies sold on PC for all those hugely important " unranked to GM" YouTube streamers?
Hola Senor Kaplan, I too have felt the sting of being an EQ player.
Queso what Im wondering is why everyone is so certain that a constantly shifting meta would end up in a more enjoyable OW experience… It’s not like we all get to hit the stop button when the wheel of Meta’s lands on one we like right? I mean who knows though, I could see this shifting meta idea being more beneficial for players that had a broader game knowledge versus sheer mechanical or one trick players and I’m huge into game mechanics myself, theorycrafting, perhaps this could be what eventually gets the team coordinated, well rounded, knowledgeable, versatile, boomer aimed outta the middle tiers. Then again it could be like when you’re so anti one trick that you never really excel at any particular hero, true meta meta performance has to be like inception you have to understand why it works, and I feel like myself included (for now since I’ve only been playing for a few months) just tend to attempt to pull off the actions required, rather than say refine/define better ways to use them…
It helps you out on any role to understand every character in the games abilities and cooldowns, even will help your team play better, so why one trick, at least play the hard counter so you know how to kill it.
Either way I like that the devs for this game are constantly trying new stuff out and clearly actually play the game a stark contrast from being a Diablo III degen (at least in the last couple years)
sorry that was supposed to be like one sentence but that ol adhd
Guys can we just stop calling alt accounts smurfs- For console… dude youre playing console, you must atone for your sins, but I feel you smurfs smurves? are still pretty common throughout the PC game as well, they just de-rank on purpose on one of their accounts or even buy accounts pre lowered from discord servers-
See the thing is I get LoL like console OW you can make what they call smurf accounts and that term is used to describe any alternate account…
But when I say smurf Im talking about what you see 90% + of the time when you open LFG - Deranking to Bronze groups… and then they end up being really toxic to new players to make themselves feel okay that they cant get GM or Top 500 whatever… kinda pathetic in my eyes but hey I guess sometimes some people just need a meaningless win - It is funny though cause when you look at these LFG deranking groups you go damn you for tarnishing my hidden comp mmr but at least if they are doing it as a group you don’t have throwers on your team as often.
No. An alt account and a smurf are NOT the same thing. An alt account is something you use to play something different from the main account. A smurf is very specifically an account you create with the intent on being a lower rank than your main just to feel better about yourself stomping lower ranks. That is not what an alt account is for.
Sorry but the community are losing faith with your company with poor balance change, empty promises and lack of accountability. I hope you and everyone at HQ are planning something to restore our faith with your company for your own sake, because Q2 isn’t looking too for you guys after what happen with WCIII reforged…I wonder how many more layoffs you guys are planning?

Community “Bring on hero ban, we need it”
Blizz: “No”
Community “Bring in hero ban!”
Blizz: “OK here is hero pool, where we just select random heroes to be banned, but you won’t”
This is also how dive worked and dive resulted in an extremely diverse meta below GM and especially in mid tiers.
But this change will still force us to play with and against different heroes than usual so I’m happy about it. Even though on some level it’s guaranteed to result in more mirrors.
I think we accuse Activision of hard throwing
BTW love the Futurama ref
Activision is nothing but a parasite sucking blizzard dry. All good blizzard founders are gone. they are care about is money. I love to see Blizzard cut ties with them but will never happen. within 5 years or so this company will cease to exist.

Diverse meta, if I remember correctly, was result of having versatile must-pick support. That’s all.
What an unbiased perspective.
Mercy was picked a lot in dive meta, but until the rework she was never the most picked support in GM (what we might think of as the meta). Dive started as a Zen Lucio comp, at least from a GM/pro standpoint.
And it didn’t spread anywhere else like that.
Exactly. Because it’s difficult to play.
A meta comprised around coordinated pushes with little room for error wasn’t widely adopted into the ladder? But one where you sit behind two shields waiting to react to things and requiring little coordination beyond stay protected and force the enemy to outplay you (a spiritual successor to Bastion bunker when that was decent in metal tiers) was widely used in the ladder? How surprising.
OW is like any other hero game. When the meta at the top is easy to use it will be widely adopted to the point it defines even mid tier ladder experience. When top level meta is difficult to apply correctly it will not be as successful in the hands of less skilled players and so won’t permeate the ladder.
Mercy had nothing to do with dive being a diverse meta. The meta actually became decently less diverse after she got reworked and became meta for GM. Realistically you could have removed her from the game and mid tier meta during dive would still be the peak we’ve had diversity wise.

As a flex player I’m drooling with excitement.
Blizzard is on the right track in getting more people to play multiple heroes.
Could not stop laughing about this one, and only cause it is so true. When is the last time we as a community saw our feedback being implemented to the letter? Right, probably around the early 2000s is the closest.
Either way I stand by my prediction that probably within less than a decade blizzard will just be another studio in the CoD production line. Making sure that yearly release is ready. Activision acquired Blizzard cause they already had a very lucrative and healthy agreement to freely release their games in China through a Chinese publisher since way back. It does not come easy and Activision would never get one on their own with their flagship franchise being CoD pulling out some huge red flag.
She allowed people to pick literally any random heroes and still have somewhat functional team. So diversity goes beyond dive meta in that case.
either way blizzard needs to bend to knee to us or suffer.
“The customer is always right” wonder when they will start to adopt that, business 101 after all, at least if you want to be successful in the long run. Problem I think is people do not build companies to last now days, they build them to get mega rich and that is all.
This is really exciting and i am happy for the changes that are coming. There is one thing that has been really bugging me. Though. Someone on reddit mentioned the aiming on overwatch for console doesn’t feel right no matter the settings. A dev later seen the post and replied saying that you guys know this and will be fixing it in the next patch or two. That was a year ago! Please can you look into this now. I hope the dev team can finally address this and improve aiming in overwatch, make it feel natural like call of duty or other shooters even fortnite for console players.
You making black, autistic, LGBTQ characters so people can feel proud and play who they want and then you making pools. Brilliant.
