[Hero 30] only 2-3 more days for the first hints

Hmm… so hero 30 has been tested since BETA!!!

(But seriously, I gotcha, just couldn’t resist the urge to be thick in the head / kinda think it’d be cool if this really was the case lol)

It was a cool hype though…
Love it when we get some hints from Blizzard for incoming new heroes…

Hero 30 somewhat lacks any information than other previous heroes though…
Such a shame…

They seem to alternate the hype.

One hype release, then one more subtle/surprise release, then another hype… etc.

Which works for me. I actually really like the idea of logging in to see a sudden new hero with no heads up whatsoever.
I think it’s one of the reasons apex (God I hate myself for making the comparison between the two) was successful. Because it was just BAM released

Yea, I feel like it is pretty obvious that they considered that glasses guy as a hero but probably decided against it. Maybe they just used a part of his model originally in the beta to decorate when they scrapped him.

Still, he could be a hero eventually. I feel like, assuming the next Archive mission is Talon based, the next hero may be that Mohawk guy in the old Overwatch photo. At least that is my hope!

  • You can see a hint of his hair in the Talon round table comic meeting. Blizz even draws these tiny heroes with distinctive traits (Moira red hair, Sanjay’s hair whip, Maximillion’s Red tie, Purple mohawk)
  • Him and the Dark skin girl are still unmentioned despite being in the group photo.
  • Bringing up Bastet and having Soldier and Ana meet and the whole theme of those we chose to leave behind sets up a perfect arc to introduce this guy.
  • The comic meeting with Sanjay and Moira talking about some armored body suit seems like it could fit him
  • I can see Maximillion meeting this guy in the new Paris cabaret. Maybe they are helping to incite an Omnic conflict and fight to the mansion (if not him, I at least feel like we will get an Omnic hero causing issues in Paris)

everyone forgot already about the other MEKA pilots?!?!?

Also, bait and switch.

At launch, there were a lot of hints on “Sombra”, but instead we got Ana, and Sombra came next. Then we got hyped on “Doomfist”, just for them to give us Orisa, and Doomfist came next. Both Moira and Brigitte came more as a surprise, but I remember somewhere around this time they hyping “Hammond”, which we thought would be a chimp. Took some time before Wrecking Ball became a character. We already got hyped for Echo, and Jeff already said she will not be Hero 30, so there might be another surprise because Ashe also came from nowhere. No previous references about her before the short that came the day she joined the PTR.

Lol, we’ll probably see D.VA’s Mechanic as a hero before ANY of those MEKA pilots

I hope the new hero is Junker Queen (off tank) or Maximillien (support).

Unless its another meta changing broken mess of a hero i won’t even bother.

To be fair you can say that about pretty much any character lore-wise

Ashe terrible ? What the hell are you talking about. She is the best character released since ana. All the fps fan are so happy she exists. It’s not like Brig garbage.

You might not like her char design, but her gameplay is one of the best in the game and she needs 0 nerf.

I’m talking about lore.

True.

There are a few gems here and there (Genji, Ana, Symmetra, Tracer, Lúcio, Torbjorn, Brigitte…), but most of those have a very good premise, and very little fleshing out. But you are right, the majority of the characters is absurdly simplistic on their premise.

That still don’t excuse Ashe from having a lackluster story. Especially because her premiere was specifically to help fleshing out another already-existent character. Ashe would be perfectly fine as a background character for McCree, but lore-wise she is on the bottom of the barrel for playable characters, alongside Zen.

I like the stick of RAM in this picture lol. I wonder if they have single 128gb sticks of ram that far in the future.

so… where’d you find those pics good sir

Lore in my overwatch ? Also her lore is way better than Brig’s lore. Sym is absolute crap, Lucio has 0 lore.

That just told me that you don’t know character lore.

Ashe is a pampered rich girl that got into a rebellious phase and enjoyed the criminal life. For as far as we know, she have no motive to leave her family, and no big goal to achieve in her life. She just enjoy being the boss of her gang and an outlaw.

Brigitte is the youngest children of one of the best engineers in the world, know first hand the scars of the war with the omnics (her dad lot a limb, her godfather can’t retire from a sense of duty, and she decided to join first as his mechanic and later to protect him from himself in the field.

Symmetra was taken from her parents on a young age and indoctrinated into Vishkar’s ways. She knows that Vishkar isn’t all good, but she believes the end results will justify all that, or that the alternative is worse because it will keep the world into a chaotic mess. Her comic later expanded that concept and planted a seed of doubt into her view of Vishkar.

Lúcio is the son of the creator of the Vishkar technology that weaponized sound and used the tech to hurt his people in Rio. Lúcio made his way as a music star, and then reclaimed (stole) the tech his father created to fight back against Vishkar, both in ideology (via his shows) and directly, as a fighter. Later voicelines added create a dissonant narrative, where Lúcio claims his father’s tech was stolen, and Vishkar claims that he was an employee, and thus, he was hired to create for Vishkar.

I don’t mind people who don’t know lore, or that are playing just for the gameplay and don’t give two cents for personal story. But saying Ashe lore is better than anyone other than Zenyatta is spreading misinformation.

I don’t know, for Brigitte it’s really meh the character around her are the interesting person.
I hate sym one, because she looks so dumb. It’s so obvious Sanjay is evil.
For Lucio, it’s cool not gonna lie.

Sometimes what is obvious to outsiders isn’t for those involved.
Especially when they’ve been brainwashed and we know more than they do.

IMO, the important part of Brigitte is that she was born as a part of the supporting cast. She was just the “sane person” that follow Reinhardt around in his comic, and later appearances. What makes her lore fit to a main character is that she decided to take the frontlines instead of just staying as a mechanic.

That is character growth right there. That means she is assertive, and a strong candidate to be part of the “new generation” of Overwatch alongside Tracer and Pharah.

Symmetra is not a “hero”. She is currently a villain with good intentions. When you analyze her character under that light, she becomes a much more interesting character.

Symmetra main issue at launch was that she was a third party with no relation to Overwatch-Talon struggle, or the omnic war (Lúcio, D.va and Zen are in the same boat). But since we learned that Sanjay is part of the Talon’s director board, that brings her into an interesting spot of what she will do when she finds out she was not working for an “evil but necessary” company, but was a branch for an “actually cartoon Evil with capital E” organization. People in the spectrum don’t like changes, and she is thankful for Vishkar taking her out of poverty as a kid. This will clash with her vision and will make her confidence/arrogance struggle.

It will be interesting to watch when this ship sinks.
