I’ve given up on asking the devs for new info on it because clearly they won’t spill a word about OW2 until Blizzcon in February.
Anyways, here is what bugs me about Overwatch 2:
When Overwatch 1 was announced back at Blizzcon 2014, they showed us multiple heroes in December 2014 shortly after the Blizzcon.
They then proceeded to show us multiple ones throughout 2015 leading up to Blizzcon 2015 in which they announced 3 new heroes at once (Genji, Dva and Mei) AND they gave us the release date for it.
Here is my question:
-Why aren’t they doing the same with Overwatch 2?
They could’ve easily shown us a few hero redesigns or talents or some close looks at the new maps throughout 2020, now 2020 is 1 month away from ending, they’ve said 0 things about Overwatch 2 for an entire 13 months.
They might do the same for Overwatch 2. The release date is still several months away at the earliest. I suspect we’ll see reveals for several of the new heros before launch if not all of them.
It’s a little different considering OW1 was in the making for apparently a decade+ from the remnants of Titan, with 20ish heroes available at launch. It’s not a big deal to tease heroes with all that.
OW2 may only launch with 4 new heroes, so teasing even 1 spoils 25% of the new additions
They announced it because they had to. Not that they were ready.
That’s literally it. If you saw the announcement, you saw that they said they were frustrated with people pushing and leaking because they
Were. Not. Ready.
Tbh I hope they still aren’t just to spite people . My petty self can wait. And I like art to be given time and breathing room.
I don’t need ow2 to go through the growing pains of ow1
Maybe… just maybe because we already know most of the cast, we are only going to get a few more new heroes, and new features.
That being said, another thing is probably… you know? the game isn’t ready to go into pre-order? or to give out the beta? This is something i’ve found myself having to repeat to many people
Keep in mind they may need as many announcements as possible for Blizzconline.
Starcraft is in maintenance mode.
Heroes of the Storm isn’t exactly a draw.
Hearthstone has a lot of players but doesn’t draw any excitement.
WoW just released the expansion so it probably won’t have any major news.
Diablo and OW are the only two games that probably have major updates coming.
Actually this was discussed by the devs, and while they did reuse some of the art assets for prototyping and some of the high level character designs were reused, Overwatch and it’s heroes were built entirely from scratch in just a few years time.
Probably because they aren’t going to release that many heroes. Or at least not as many as people hoped they would. I’m betting they’ll give us like 2 or 3 new heroes. I’d be surprised if they gave more than that.
I would be utterly in disblief if there was not at least two new heroes per role. At very least one per role. Theres absolutely no way they would release it with only two new heroes total.
If it really is set to release next spring, 5 new heroes is just saying they delayed the heroes we were supposed to be receiving following a normal schedule. And that will hurt them. A lot.
I’m expecting at least 6 new heroes. And if it’s delayed beyond that, I’m expecting even more.
It’s a different situation for a number of reasons. First this is not an entirely new franchise, so there is not a need to showcase everything that they are going to release with it. Second, there is a heavy emphasis on PvE and story, so maybe revealing things could be considered spoilers. Third, we are living in a pandemic and that changes things, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of things aren’t actually finished so they can’t show them yet, they may be close but not there yet. In any case we already know when exactly we are getting new information about the game.
