I can’t win games alone as Mercy, but her influence is quite large on the sway of the match. I am the reason games are won or lost oftentimes, but it’s a team effort all the same. And that’s fine
Eh, it is not worth the leaver penalty really. You can just as easily disregard them without actually leaving.
If you do your job poorly you lose.
I’d you do your job at god level it is up to the tank and Dps if you win.
That is how much influence you have. You can bring the team down but you can’t raise it up. You can be the reason they lose but you can’t be the reason they win.
naw, i mean have you seen the caliber of how comp matches are? i have encounter my fair share of a complete noob dps wandering the maps of comp. while the remaining team may not even be the best i’ve team up with random. but at least they are on point with their role. also, when we get told in comparison our own support to opponent’s. it feels like a slap to the face that either we keep them immortal or else. like who needs that sort of crap at the midst of an intense engagement in match? i have yet to see dps or tank get compared to during battle. there isn’t a “defend me” just “defend with me” voice line. it’s annoying enough that some spam “heal me” and then get blamed.
I genuinely feel like I have no impact at all lately. People haven’t learned how to play solo tank and most of the time there’s a charged enemy Zarya that simply walks past my tank and zaps the entire team.
The difference between teams has been insane and I’ve had many games in which I either involuntarily out damage one of the dps due to having to defend myself or they drop like flies before I can even do something about it
agreed. each role has its importance. tank to capture objective while defending objective and team. dps really need to flank and put pressure in order to gain kills to keep team safe and support boosting team with their utility and heals. the problem is, any of these role can have just one to two bad eggs. and the team camaraderie falter and turns to bad blood. experienced players and especially experienced support knows when something is off; and are usually the first to sound the alarm. because any experienced players would have done everything they can do win together; not as a solo. at least the boasting of ow1’s toxic “i got gold elim” or some equal crap doesn’t exist any more; since we can get a good overview of ALL players. problem is, the toxicity still doesn’t falter nor does the blames
playing any support feels like “damned if you do and damned if you don’t” on everything you do…
DPS like tracer, genji, sombra and reaper getting to your backline unnoticed and keep you from doing your job as support just makes everybody toxic (support! why is your healing so low, where are you, i need healing) you can ping the enemy all you want, you can ask for help all you want, most people you play with are to focussed on what is in front of them (let allone having a clue pharmercy is flying around uncontested)
so, appart from not having my team running to the closest healthpack i don’t feel i have that much influence (especialy now that they either hard focus your tank and put you at a disadvantage or hard focus your support stopping you from doing what you’re supposed to do)
Pretty high, the gap between bad and good supports seems bigger then ever. And since you are one player less per team every rescue is more important then before.
If you healbot? Almost none. If you use your offensive potential with heroes like Bap, Zen, Ana and others? Holy hell you can “support diff” and “DPS diff” in one go
Well, do not know if in match(play bap, moira, kiriko) : I do not kill solo on sup, I do not outflank, I do not play aggressively. Let’s say I just passively heal(play ana, mercy another hero) the team - I lose, no matter how many 18-20+ thousand I healed(sorry me eng bad)sup role broken or me acc curse. Daimond
Definitely feels like a “win more” role.
If I have competent teammates, then I can launch them to victory, make up a little for what they’re lacking.
But bad teammates can make it pretty much impossible to do my job.
I feel like I have less influence than in OW1, and I think this is due to one less tank.
In OW1, what would go on usually is more ult combos because two tanks could be rough to break through without them. Grav combos, nano blade, unique combos ect.
What this often meant was that, as a support your ultimate would usually mitigate the power of two ult burns for the price of your one, which made you a high value target to pick off first so you couldn’t ult, and if you did you pretty much saved the team for that push.
Problem is now, things snowball so quickly the defensive support ults are usually 1:1. Enemy Kiriko Ults? Defensive ult. Dragonblade? Defensive ult. Grav? Defensive ult, ect. ect.
This has made support ults feel a lot less impactful, and on top of losing a tank it feels like ult gen for supports is a lot lower now so for many enemy ults what are we supposed to do? Like, if the enemy team is running a Zarya, Genji, Junkrat, back in the day Genji would be prioritized because nanoblade would be two ults or even three ults stopped for the price of one, but now it’s more of a choice of which ult to prioritize because it’s impossible to have the ult gen to stop all three.
Oh, also the thing about having one more tank was that the additional tank ult was often used defensively instead of offensively. Now that one added defensive ult is gone while dps keep their offensive ones, other than Sym.
Depends on the situation
If I have a Genji and Sombra on enemy team it feels pretty stressful and I feel like I have 0 impact when nobody is protecting me. Other than that I’m feeling pretty fine about the whole situation and having a great time and I have a good impact
I’ve seen a lot of Genjis press shift straight into the enemy frontline and get obliterated, all while spamming “I need healing”. I’ve seen a ton of passive Orisas too afraid to exit spawn. I’ve seen my fair share of Reins who think that Shift is the only button on their keyboard and aren’t aware that there are buttons on a mouse.
As a Mercy player, I will heal, boost or res my team until the game ends, regardless how my team is playing. I’m a pretty average Mercy at best, but the improving is what keeps me going - If I focus more on how I can help my team to maybe get the courage to actually stand on the objective or at least just improving on keeping my suicidal teammate alive for a minute longer, I’ll be pretty happy with myself. Obviously that doesn’t mean that I think I’m ML7 with no flaws and should be Top 500. We all do dumb stuff occasionally. If we lost, I just know that I gave it my best shot, oh well,: GG go next.
The Support Experience: The whole team blames you for their misfortunes, whether that be your Sojourn jumping into the middle of the enemy team or your Hanzo, who seems to think that the best way of surviving a D.VA bomb is to have a staring competition with it. We are the scapegoats of the losing team or the burden of the winning team.
With the current climate of the game (no clue about OW1, only played Custom Games with my mates), the entire game seems to revolve around eliminating the enemy backline. I don’t really mind that in itself all that much, since it makes sense to kill the dudes actively healing the tanks and the DPS’. However, I find it exceedingly rare that a teammate actually comes to our aid when an enemy Genji, Sombra or Tracer just appear. Usually our cries for help are met with “Just don’t die”, “Git Gud” or “L” followed by whining and complaining that nobody is healing them. I feel like I don’t have a reasonable way to defend myself and often games just turn into a “Run Away from Genji Simulator”.
Occasionally we all get some super wholesome players that thank you for healing them or for saving them from certain death, and it always makes my day.
When it comes to influence, I’m at a bit of a fork in the road. On one side, I can definitely heal my teammates after they got hit by some stray bullets or patch up a Reaper after an adventure into the enemy backline, but on the other side, I definitely don’t feel like a game changer. Occasionally I’ll pull off a play where I res my Soldier and boost him for a 5k visor, but these plays are only possible with decent/cooperative teammates. There isn’t much you can do when your team doesn’t seem to understand that leaving spawn is an essential part of the game and instead, insist on just verbally abusing you in comms. Best you can do is mute them and wait for the game to end (whether that be due to the enemy team winning because your team decided that dancing in spawn is a better use of their time, or because FF due to teammates leaving) and report the griefers and to queue up again.
Would be interesting to see what would happen if they brought old Mercy team res back…
Might make her relevant again
Sorry for the wall of text
After much thinking I’ve come to my conclusion why supports feel unimpactful to play to me.
With pretty much every suport healing is the least impactful and fun part of your kit. It’s your 9-5 drudgery a baseline activity you have to keep and maintain. Using your CDs on yourself doesn’t feel good either.
The worse your team is the more of this drugery you have to engage in and the less time you have to make plays and have fun.
DPS don’t have this problem. DPS don’t have to spend half their time shouting motivational speeches at their team instead of doing damage.
For dive tanks this is also an issue because if your team just doesn’t push with you you don’t get to endgage with your kit so much. But there are tank picks that don’t care.
Support IS impactful and IS strong but you’re chained to your team in a way that’s just… frustrating.
i have 1800hrs on mercy and i’ve been playing a good bit of d’va and tracer in ow2 and i can confidently say it’s a lot easier to win games as tank or dps
like i have plenty of experience w/ support and i can pull my weight and i know how to deal w/ divers, flankers and one shot heroes relatively well but it’s a bit much atm
divers and flankers can get away w/ more bc of 5v5 bc they can focus fire one enemy and there’s less defense and protection for that one enemy
Less influence than Damage and Tank.
Support can’t outheal proper damage especially snipers.
Sure you can heal pokes but if your teammates aren’t killing anyone, good luck taking objective.
I would say, about the same as in OW1 over all. They told us 5 vs 5 would fix a lot of things, and the new everyone-is-a-damage-dealer approach doesn’t really work out that well. Because there is even more damage flying around I find myself having almost less time shooting. I usually have to spend 90% of my time healing the team mates anyway.
The better tank helps but if the team ignores or does not pay attention to enemy call outs attack your backline, you will lose. When I play as healer I am constantly marking the enemy.
The only impact is feel like I have is as bait. I can get an enemy hog or d.va to follow me away from the objective making more space for my team to pick off the other team (typically play Zen so try and keep some los to heal). Also I tend to get solo ulted so I’m eating into the potential damage they could do to my team. That’s really it. I’m a distraction that heals when I’m not walking back from spawn.
