If it was truely “healer” then S76 would be one.
I never understood why people have to be sticklers about this either. They heal (consistently), and so sometimes they get called healers. Oh no.
Streamer parroting, I guess.
EDIT: reply not meant for Saucy, sorry
You’re being willfully obtuse if you’re comparing a fairly long cooldown ability (a small, stationary puddle) to something the supports can do at any time basically for free, even passively in several cases.
Sure, but not in the support role. How do I know this? Because in Symm 1.0/2.0 days, teammates would routinely whine at her to “switch to healer” if they didn’t have two already.
Lara has fallen. I’ve seen a time when takes were somewhat decent
And
Isn’t?
I gave the reply their comment deserved.
If you want a more thought out reply.
Support is a better term because it is a super set of healing and their other abilities.
The utility that people refer to when debating this is a broader category than healing.
Sombra does provide the kind of utility that these hypothetical supports would. Soldier does not provide the kind of healing the actual supports/healers do.
I mean sure, but “healer” isn’t much worse. The butthurt about such an inconsequential difference seems out of proportion to me.
And was built as a support. but then so was Echo.
The butthurt is because it is a proxy for “supports should be healing, not doing other things” arguments which people keep making.
It isn’t directly about the name.
Well that’s such a dumb argument that I wouldn’t even pay attention to it, but if people more patient than me have to resort to this “support, not healer” thing as an explanation, then more power to them, I guess
Overwatch has FAR too much damage and is too fast-paced for a support not to have healing. Blame the DPS heroes Blizzard have been damage creeping for years.
But they’re not just healers, which is why they are called supports. I doubt we’ll ever get a non-healing support, but support is still the correct word.
I would argue that is always more valuable.
Healing is the poor mans value.
This is an ego post, I can tell
Probably bait, but I’ll bite this time.
Every support can heal, but at least 90% of the time, you pick a support based on their utility or other strengths, not their healing output.
Zenyatta: Discord Orb and Transcendence
Lúcio: Speed Boost and Sound Barrier
Mercy: Damage Boost and Res
Brig: Peel potential and ability to brawl
Ana: Heavy Utility through Sleep Dart and 'Nade
Kiriko: Suzu and Kitsune Rush
Lifeweaver: Literally entirely utility
Moira: Maybe the closest support to being picked solely for heals, but she boasts amazing Survivability, a beam for a weapon, so great against flankers, and her ult passes through all players, so it’s incredibly versatile
in the future they’re most likely to buff his healing and rework his kit somehow to feature less utility and more healing, like it’s already happening, they’re making him heal more at release
a support without healing is useless when compared to the rest of the roster, they learned their lesson way back when sym was a support as you said and they’ve been fine tuning all supports to have similar value when it comes to their healing output, there’s no way we’ll have a heal-less support
Okay, so when are the nerfs coming for the entire support role because it’s ridiculous starting tomorrow.
Do semantics really matter though?
Zen, Lucio, Mercy all just said hi
That’s flat out false LOL. Zen and Lucio (and potentially Mercy) still would, especially if their utility/DPS got buffed
In fact I think Zen and Lucio would be even more viable/meta if their healing was removed entirely and replaced with damage/utility buffs
Don’t care what you call yourself. You heal when someone on your team is low on hp.
Zenyatta isn’t a Healer, he’s a Hurter.
Lucio can be a little Wasp when Contesting and is good because of his Speed.
Lifeweaver looks to be good at Repositioning Teammates out of Danger.
Ana is the almighty god of everything.
The only Support who can’t actually Support is Moira and no one above Plat thinks she’s any good.
Similarly Mercy is a bad healer, but Blue Beam turning Pharah or Ashe or Soldier into a permanent raid boss is her real contribution.
I am a Zenyata main and I don’t heal, just out of principle.
