Hammond isn’t Overwatch

I’m 30. I also like Hammond and plan to main him along with my usual Roadhog/Reinhardt. Maybe this loud minority are all teenagers with nothing better to do? With that… I’m headed to the bar. Later folks.

I wouldn’t say an adult game, but i wouldn’t say a children’s game either.

I just felt like i was playing a game.

But now it’s more gimmicky, and too over the top chilidish “oh look a cute hamster teehee” is not what i want out of a competitive FPS

The bar? :scream: Stay inside getting drunk playing videos game like every other respectable person in their 30’s!

It’s one, one hero out of 28. I don’t think it affects the feel of the game that bad. lol

Eh, who am I to say? I don’t dislike or like, I am in between this time, I just accept. lol

Nobody is forcing you to play a Hamster either.

i know i just had to rant lol didn’t expect to get this many replies.

i will still play overwatch, but i don’t have a warm and fuzzy feeling for it anymore.

it doesn’t feel like the game i grew to love anymore.

petition for name change to “SlickNick” clearly the better choice.

agreed! but i don’t want to be associated with that thing so i’ll pass

thanks for the reply “GroveWarden”

I mean… overtime warm and fuzzy feelings for almost anything will fade… whether or not it was because of a Hamster. xD

… well maybe the warm might fade but the Hamster keeps the fuzzy there. Just differently. lol

Can someone tell my how to post an image?

It does not. Exaggerated features can make a cartoon stand out, in terms of art style, but a hamster having the whiskers come out of the wrong part of it’s face doesn’t make it “more like a cartoon.”

If you had an actual, honest-to-god hamster in a movie-- a real hamster-- and used CGI to move it’s whiskers onto it’s cheeks, it wouldn’t suddenly look like it didn’t belong in that movie. Hell, you could use CGI to remove one of it’s digits and it would look like it still belonged in the movie. Those things don’t make it look like a cartoon. It just looks like a hamster, and the only people who know something is “wrong” with it are people who know how many fingers a hamster has or where a hamster’s whiskers come from.

This is the same thing. Those differences don’t make Hammond look any more or less like he belongs in the Overwatch art style. He looks “as cartoony” as these other characters do.

You are trying too hard to box your thoughts in as “facts”. You are not being open-minded about this, and thinking about it contextually.

We already have one annoying rat in the game, why do we need a second? We were suspending reality with other characters in the game, but now we’ve gone the route of total fantasy and that’s honestly why it’s a big deal. This is a full on abandonment of anything even remotely feasible. No amount of LOLLORE is going to justify why a hamster can pilot a mech. Unless it was a robot hamster, in which case it’s still really freaking stupid. Understand that to some of us who love the characters and the backstory, asking us to believe a hamster can not only be hyper intelligent, but pilot a mech, is a betrayal and honestly insulting.

And all these people are like “omg so cute”. So cute? Ever owned a hamster? Vicious, disgusting creatures that wallow in their own filth. Just, a disappointing choice in character and I really wish they’d reconsider it. Most of us don’t have a problem with the skill set or the wrecking ball itself, it’s just, really, a hamster? It’s just insulting, I don’t know how else to explain.

So also no ammount of science and technology in the FUTURE, reminding now that this is not the current day… this is the future where more is POSSIBLE, can make a Hamster smart enough to do something like this? This same future with Omnics… and stuff made outta light, and they can’t do the simple science of make a rodent smarter? lol

If you don’t believe Hammond is “remotely feasible”, it’s either because of ignorance or a lack of imagination. If mechs are feasible and intelligent rodents are feasible-- and both of those things are, in fact, more feasible than things like hard light structures or time travel– then Hammond is, too.

It’s no more fantastical than half of what happens in Overwatch, at least not to anyone with an open mind.

Seriously. I would argue that to me, Hammond looks more like a hamster than Roadhog does to a real human being. Roadhog has

  • An arm to body ration closer to what gorillas have than human beings
  • An absurdly small head to torso ratio
  • Massive, massive hands that could hold his head in their palm
  • Teensy short legs that look like they could in no way support the weight of his body
  • A fat stomach that just forms a perfect circle instead of really settling in like actual body fat does

And even among human characters they’re exaggerated in different ways. Roadhog would look like a nightmare in real life, but Soldier just looks like a dude with pretty normal proportions.

But hey Hammond’s whiskers aren’t in the right place and he has eyebrows and fat cheeks.

It’s not about whether they CAN add a rodent in a death suit to their game, it’s about whether they SHOULD. There’s absolutely no benefit to their story in doing this, and they alienate a portion of their base with something so ridiculous. Open mind is one thing, ridiculous is another. Honestly it feels like an episode of South Park. We basically have Lemmiwinks in game now.

And you change the shape of its face. And you make it anthropomorphic. And you give it eye brows. And you give it facial expressions.

At that point, it’s gonna start to look cartoony and not like a real hamster.

Meanwhile, Moira’s rabbit looks like this.

Willing to bet that’s not actually a normal rabbit either.

Here’s the image for ya:

This is always the logical conclusion people come to in these arguments, but good god I wish you folks would just say this outright instead of making us poke holes in the “realism” and “feasibility” and “believability” (your words) arguments first.

Like everybody here seems to have armor, and it’s “the Hammond realism argument” armor, and I have to go through that FIRST to get to the actual meat of “what you meant.”

Every. Single. Time.

Coco the gorilla that knew sign language IRL just died. Very sad. But gorilla intelligence makes sense. Hamster intelligence is an oxymoron.
