Guess we need to nerf genji

This doesn’t work. We already know this, because other close range DPS heroes aren’t designed like this. They all have one ability that can be used to engage then at least one more that can be used for mitigation and/or to disengage.

Reaper has fade, lifesteal and TP. Genji has dash reset, deflect and wall climb. Tracer has blink and recall. Mei has ice block and wall. Venture has drill dash, resolve and burrow. There’s a clear design pattern, and off the top of my head I think the only two CQC heroes who break it are new Sombra and Sym. It doesn’t make sense to require the player to weigh whether they want to use the CD to go in or out, because there is no out until the player goes in, and once Sombra goes in, she has no out.

I believe the dev’s intent is for Sombra to use stealth to engage, wait behind cover while visible for a second, attack the target and then use TP to disengage. It doesn’t work, because the stealth duration isn’t long enough to allow the player to navigate the unpredictable randomness of enemy behavior. For example, if I’m in stealth and an enemy happens to step behind the piece of cover I was planning to use, that’s it. Engagement is over and I might die now.

So instead, we have no choice but to hack from the safety of stealth, then hope either our supports make our disengagement possible, or we somehow get lucky and escape in the chaos of the fight, or we at least trade. In technical game design terms, this is called piss.

Two translocator charges at a higher CD per charge is one possible solution, but there are others, like having the CD reset on kill, or reset on landing virus, or maybe reset on landing virus on a hacked target.

Doesn’t have to be a full reset either. They could explore alternatives, like dealing damage on a hacked target speeds up the translocator CD (this one could be fun and adds some risk/reward). Either way, they need to figure out some way to allow her to go both in and out like other heroes in her class.

I’d be fine with 2 charges if it was separated from stealth. The difference between blink+recall, dash+reset, and having 2 charges of mobility+stealth, is that the latter in WAY more forgiving. There isn’t an extra second or two that they’re still in LoS that your team might pick her off, she’s just gone. And so long as CC doesn’t exist, your counterplay is limited to babysitting your backline. Which most players find boring, and is why so many people called for her nerf in the first place.
