Genji stats in GM go through the roof

Incidentally, devs don’t even use a vaguely similar methodology on winrates.
For starters. They exclude mirror matches.
And in addition to that, they aren’t subject to potential sampling bias.

And the last time devs talked about winrates in GM, people were very surprised that they were very different from what was on Overbuff.

The stats aren’t exactly going to be accurate in telling how Genji is due to the initial hype.

Actually the contrary. Jeff once posted a top 10 most played heroes for every rank. Was pretty much 99% identical to what you found on overbuff.

The pickrates were spot on.

The winrates threw everybody for a loop, particularly on Soldier and Genji.

I dont recall Jeff ever posting winrates.

Ah, guess so. It was Josh.

Ah cool, i must have missed that.

But even still, given McCree’s pickrate.
Do you really think it’s reasonable that something like 1/6th of GM DPS got to GM on a negative winrate, on a popular hero?

Clearly there’s something bending the winrate numbers a bit.

If people decide to switch to a hero in a last ditch effort in a situation where the game is probably already lost, then their winrate can tank a bit. Since Echo got into the game, i can imagine that alot of people get roll’d by her and end up swapping to McCree to counter, but maybe its too late in some games.

If they want dive, they need to buff the severely underperforming Winston, and maybe also Dva and Wrecking Ball. I would love to see Winston buffed instead of turning Genji into an OP monster.

They need to revert about half of the buffs to Genji. Deflect cancel shouldn’t be a thing, and revert either the damage boost or the spread reduction.

That gets into the whole issue of how Time effects winrates.

Not weighted by time.
Then 5seconds on a hero weighs as much as 30 minutes.

Weighted by time.
Then the team with the highest time on Defence wins.
And the team with the lowest time on Attack wins.
And winrate is heavily skewed on heroes that only get picked for Defence, or Attack.

People are annoyed everywhere, where are you reading lol

It’s been a couple days. Wait for the stats to stabilize. Everyone and their mother is trying out Genji again since he got buffed, so naturally his pickrate & winrate will skyrocket. I have a feeling he’ll drop a few percent in winrate over the next week or two

I mean, I’m thinking, I know the initial hype will give him high pick rate, but would it give him high wr if he’s that bad ?

Idk, mellowing out on the subject more, I feel the damage boost was all he needed then maybe a slight nerf to ult charge to balance it out. Either way, if they keep all this stuff (which is very likely) I hope they consider nerfing his ult charge gain.

its funny that you are actually incorrect.

If he gets more popular due to the hype, you would also get a bunch of people who arent good at him trying him out, which should make his winrate actually go down.
But its going upwards alongside his pickrate.

Yeah that’s what I mean. I think that kinda proves he’s really strong right now but I don’t know if there’s examples of new changed/released hero with high pick rate but lower wr.

we go agane on the pickrates and winrates
if we are in league of legends i would say they matter ( even tho they shouldn’t )
but we are in overwatch bro
everyone has private accounts
it’s almost impossible to balance the game on pickrates and winrates
and even tho if u actually play the hero u would see he isn’t broken it’s just that he is fun and FINALLY after 3 years he is playable
so stop this hate on genji for no reason

In GM, he had 4.8% pick rate as of yesterday. 4.99% overall. Ashe had 3.7%, or 3.9% overall.

the cancel on the deflect just makes it not so easy to outplay a genji now
(especially in gm or higher)
