Freezing/Teleportation Lag

Posting this here since I haven’t seen any responses yet to my replies in other threads. I randomly “freeze”, walk in place, etc then suddenly jump to where I was intending to turn or walk, if that makes sense. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason. Sometimes it happens 3 times in a 5 second span, other times only once a game, but it’s happening basically every game. Very frustrating.

I’m running an ethernet connection with good internet and a high-end setup, my ping is normally in the low 50s. I’ve tried all the usual fixes and nothing seems to help.

Hey Player,

The only thing sticking out is the latency spikes happening on the Comcast route:
50.208.232.126 - 0 | 527 | 527 | 24 | 31 | 260 | 28 |

Would you be able to try testing another network like a mobile hotspot or maybe a free VPN temporarily? That could help isolate the problem.

Unfortunately, I’m getting worse lag than before

Yeah it looks like there is some interference causing latency spikes while using the mobile hotspot. Did you try a free VPN?

I think I MAY have “fixed” it? I was recording a game last night to try to more easily show the lag I’ve been experiencing, which capped my frames at about 240 instead of 300, and I didnt experience any lag. I changed the frame rate cap from 300 to 280 for another game and didnt lag there either.

I’m going to play some more in a bit just to make sure, but it seems like it may be an issue with the 300 frame rate? Idk its just weird since I hadnt had this issue before last week.

EDIT: I take that back, I’m still having this issue with a lowered frame rate cap. No idea whats causing it. I did try a VPN.

I have been having the exact same issue the past month or so. In my attempt to fix it I would often ask people in the game chat and 6/10 sombody else reported having the same problem. We just gotta wait for blizzard to acknowledge this one (wich may take a while… if they ever do) What I do is restart my client after every match because It seems to get increesingly worse with extended play sessions. It’s inconvenient but better than dying to lag every minute. gl

Thanks, I’ll try that. Yeah I also thought it might be getting worse with longer playtime, but I couldnt tell if it was that or I was just getting more frustrated lol

Player,

What you’re describing actually sounds like a quality of service conflict. Some network cards and routers have a special service called Quality of Service that decides how “important” certain programs are for your network traffic. Sometimes, they decide Overwatch is low priority, which causes these sorts of issues.

Do you know the model of your network card? You can find out from this link. While you’re there anyway, update your network drivers, then power cycle your connection in case it’s just some stuck data in your router cache.

If that doesn’t work, please let us know what the make and model of your network card is, especially if it’s a Killer network card.
