FPS Drops and Flucuations

[Maz-1999]

Since at least the last patch, and ironically lowering my settings further to get the most FPS possible, I have been receiving constant fluctuations in my FPS (Somewhat notably during team fights) that have made it at best annoying to play and at worst incredibly frustrating.

I’ve followed all the recommended steps in the sticky and none of them have remedied the problem. I’ve noticed that my GPU only gets up to around 70 degrees and the only programs I have running in the background are Steam, Avast, Realtek HD Audio Manager, and Razer Synapse. However, I’ve had all of those running before and don’t recall suffering the same problems I’m currently facing.

I can’t think of anything else to do but post my DxDiag file and hope something within it can lead to a solution.

Looks like you’re having issues with your sound driver, which can absolutely cause problems in game. It’s showing an error for the ctaud2k.sys file, so I’d completely remove them and reinstall. Usually there is an errors section at the end of the dxdiag, and I’d expect to see this there, but it’s not attached to the end.

I uninstalled and reinstalled everything with regards to Creative and still had problems, after that I uninstalled and deleted everything with regards to Creative and played two games, but things weren’t much better. I didn’t think it was connected, but I think it’s also worth mentioning now that it takes 30 seconds to a minute for the models to load when I join a game.

It’s possible you’re having a problem with hard drive write-speed or that it’s failing, or that your GPU is failing. Are you using an SSD?

Yah I noticed this too it feels like I’m playing with vsync on. Everytime I feel it in game the frames are dropping by 20.

Are you referring to something you updated on your own system? Because my FPS is still stellar after the update, so I don’t think it’s Overwatch-related.

I love that people within the community are offering support and advice, but I don’t really think that the sound drivers are the culprit here, the consistency of this issue starting with the patch as well as the symptoms described by many players who have also run through updating is way too common -

Fps problem lower settings/resolution same fps

i need some help with overwatch the fps is lower than it should be after the game has been running for a little while and resolution or option lowering does NOT AT ALL change fps also its not overheating cpu/gpu the temp stays the same and is only 5C higher than when idle so what do i do to fix it

my fps have returned to normal,not sure what did the trick but i just set it to close blizzard launcher when i play the game so maybe that was it or something.

Pretty sure I’ve replied to frame drops & CPU Usage issues, which actually are the issue here. Thanks.

Since at least the last patch, and ironically lowering my settings further to get the most FPS possible, I have been receiving constant fluctuations in my FPS (Somewhat notably during team fights) that have made it at best annoying to play and at worst incredibly frustrating.

Additionally, the techs I’ve spoken to have mentioned that they’re attempting to gather more information on these issues, so attempting to direct people to a thread where they can see that it’s an ongoing process in finding a fix will offer them some insight into the situation.

Feel free to quote the section of the forum rules I’m violating.

I’m happy for you that your game is still running properly but there are now over 20+ posts with unique posters mentioning severe playability issues since patch day.

How that’s not related to my issue is debatable, but the number of people who mention increased CPU Usage + loss of frames all falls under the same criteria as what I’ve been experiencing.
