Really now i want someone to tell me why it’s fun to not get to play the Hero you want?
You get attached to a character and their mechanics but the stairs have to agline to be able to play them.
You need to be on the right map first, then you need to make sure your teammates haven’t picked that character, Then you need to make sure they lign up with the comp, Then on top of all that you have to make sure the enemy team isn’t playing your counter. Then and only then do you get to enjoy playing the character you want.
It’s not people that’s the problem it’s the Devs. This whole system exists only for OWL. keeping the pace of the game up not because it’s more fun to play but because it’s easier for caffeine riddled kids to watch.
Everything that is done in balancing for this game servers ONLY OWL.
This whole game is just a disgusting platform to push these alternative money making schemes.
I 100% agree. This was a major turnoff for me when i got the game, and tbh i kinda hoped it would get reworked to the point people would pick what they wanna play.
You get a deck of cards to modify your hero the way you want, and a talent that does the same, but stronger and can change the way you play the hero, you also have items to buy,
My only problem with not switching is that if you get idk, get your 2 dps, Junkrat and doomfist, the enemy team picks pharah, that game is basically lost at the hero select screen (somerthing that can happen in paladins too)
It’s really not, plenty of games have equipment loadouts that you can swap between deaths.
If anything the thing Overwatch is doing too well is making people attached to their equipment loadouts by adding personalities to the loadouts.
Some loadouts are less useful depending on the situation, that’s always going to be the case whether you get locked into it or not. At least if your current loadout isn’t working, you can swap it. Imagine the entire game as it is without hero swapping, you pick the wrong hero at the beginning and then you spend 5-15 minutes losing without anything you can do about it.
If you are looking for a similar game that locks characters and uses items to make characters viable then I recommend Paladins.
One time i picked Moji, my team picked 2 tanks, and a support, and the 5th guy picked another short range guy and basically when they picked the paladins version of pharah,
Considering the whole “Switch your hero at any time” was probably the BIGGEST selling point advertised, I’m confused how any of you could have been conflicted when you bought the game.
Getting a game that literally told you what to expect and expecting something else is pretty delusional frankly.
The problem is no structure in the game, had the game locked you into a role to begin with no one would be crying about not being able to do ridiculous stuff like flexing from Rein to Widow because they feel like it.
Seriously? Hero switching was one of the core marketing points of this game? Why would you even start with Overwatch if you dislike one of it’s core aspects as much? That’s how the game is designed… how it’s supposed to be played, no need for discussion on that point.
The thing that makes it not work is the fact that for three years the devs have left the players steering through it unguided. Playing two different sides… their own in encouraging people to switch and work together, while still trying to not upset the snowflakes failing to accept how the game is supposed to be.
It’s why Role Queue and stuff like 2/2/2 is absolutely neccesarry for the future of Overwatch.
Speaking for myself, despite the fact i hated that system since day one, i also loved alot of other things about the game. So my opinion of the game was balanced, but i never stopped hoping the game would evolve to a point that we can pick one hero per match.
Same way it evolved away from multiple of the same hero picks in the same team.
Or at least pick a role for the match without having to argue and fight with others about it.
Yeah, I mostly just play what I want, even back when I used to play comp. Even if I’m countered. The only exception is if the counter is a big enough deal that I’m basically not playing the game anymore because I’m getting doodoo’d on, then I’ll switch.
Those of the opposing camp just can’t see the viewpoint of those that play this game specifically because it’s a HERO shooter, and people get attached to characters. I started playing this game in the first place because I though Genji and McCree looked AWESOME.
“Players can change their hero during the course of a match, as a goal of Overwatch 's design was to encourage dynamic team compositions that adapt to the situation.” Taken straight from Overwatch’s Wikipedia Page underneath the gameplay section.
Why is it, that you expect to have fun in a game in which you completely ignore one of it’s fundamental mechanics, in which it was even advertised as.
It’s like playing Minecraft without going mining. Your missing a key part of the game, there. In Overwatch’s case it may not be as obvious. But still…
they were adamant about keeping hero switching as an integral part of the game LONG before they even conceived of the OWL, i remember them talking about it in the closed beta.
