I think no hero is going to be removed, ever.

But if we’re going by hypothetically: Doomfist. I don’t think he can ever be fixed, mechanically.
Plus every Doomfist thus far has been usurped by another.

Now imagine this: Reaper… with the gauntlet.

Jeff (I think it was Jeff) said they considered having characters killed in the story, but not removed from the game.

Highly doubt they’d actually kill off a character that’s in the game. I mean, obviously they wouldn’t remove the hero just because they were killed in the lore, but I just don’t see it happening at all. There’s no way they’d alienate those fans.

So it will likely be a Talon member.

Would be weird (and personaly i wouldnt like it) to play as a hero that is dead in the lore, even if the lore doesnt really affect the gameplay

As I said in another thread, it would have to be someone that we have had the opportunity to have emotional attachment to. Right now those heroes are the good guys from the animated shorts – Tracer, Winston, Jack, Reinhardt, Bastion, Mei, Genji, Hanzo. Characters like Sombra haven’t had the opportunity to gain that sort of emotional resonance, and so killing them off would lack the impact that the team would desire with their Pixar style approach to narrative. It would be a wasted effort.

I don’t want any of the characters to die, but if I had to take a guess I would narrow it down to these guys:

  • Reinhardt
  • Roadhog
  • Reaper

Reasons?

  • Reinhardt is well into retirement age like some of the other heroes, but Brigitte has to constantly watch over him. He’s had it rough. He wants to fight the good fight and it looks like his age is catching up to him. Slowly. I believe that he may go down fighting.

  • My reasons for Roadhog is pretty much the same. He’s a little younger than Reinhardt, however I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes down fighting. Most likely it’ll happen when he’s protecting Junkrat.

  • As for Reaper, I can see it happening. I’m just not sure how yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if karma catches up to him one day.

They wouldn’t kill any hero even in story. Unless they want to do Overwatch 2
