Finally decided to get OW with the humble bundle deal

Currently level 6 and I’m enjoying it so far. Just wondering if there’s any tips from seasoned players as I don’t exactly know what i’m doing haha

Get used to the layout of the maps in a custom game. Just pathfind around a bit so you know where optimal paths to the objective are and where healthpacks are located.

Also small things like the enemy’s Ultimate Voice Lines are usually in a different language than when your team uses it. The only time it isn’t is when the hero only speaks English in which case the voice line itself is different.

I’d look up the differences so you know when the enemy is using their Ultimate versus when your Team Mate is.

Most importantly try to have fun and find a few characters you really enjoy playing.

  • Do not, by any means, fill unless you want to (and I mean really want to, not “oh it’s good for the team”)
  • If someone is whining about there being no heals and they’re not a healer, gently remind them that they are not healing

Honestly, just have fun. No matter what the “fans” tell you in the Overwatch Forums, its an incredibly fun and balanced game. One thing I’d recommend is for you to try EVERY hero out just to make sure if you like them or not. Some people stick to one character the entire game and thats not very fun.

Try out the arcade mode ”mystery heroes” you might discover your new main (I did) and maybe watch some basic guides on youtube. And most importantly, have fun

r/overwatchuniversity is an excellent resource.

Pro game footage will help you get a sense of how much depth the game has at the highest level, which is useful even if the things they do aren’t directly applicable to your games due to the lack of organized teams and skill difference.

These forums are very polarized and opinionated. You’ll have to account for context when reading posts here.

At lv 6 I’d honestly recommend just playing the game more, and looking up guides for what you find interesting or to deal with problems you see. Just be sure to check that the content is relevant for the current balance patch, and look around at other guides to make sure the advice is sound. Also avoid competitive until you feel like you understand enough to adapt on the fly.

  1. Go to Options, Gameplay and disable “skirmish while waiting for game”.

  2. Also I’d suggest you do NOT queue with a friend, or anyone for that matter more experienced than yourself, until you’ve had some basic understanding of the game.

It will help you learn at your own pace, against people of the same level (skill level) as you. Having a more experienced friend will only result in much harder and less fun games.

  1. Understand that this is a much more complex game than you can now imagine. Relatively easy to pick up but it has so much depth if you’re ready to dig. Give it a week or two and then, just for fun, watch an actual OWL coach analysis of a game. I find it beautiful.

  2. community kinda sucks, prepare yourself :stuck_out_tongue:

Learn where the healthpacks are, for when the healers can’t help you. The smaller ones heal 75, the larger ones 250, and if you can keep yourself alive it frees up resources for the rest of your team

You could even try setting up a group using the LFG system and title it something like “New Player need help learning the game” I found a group like that once and I decided to join it, I and 4 other people helped this guy learn the game a bit.

But yeah try out all the heroes and try to pick at least 1 from each role that you like 2 per role would be even better. Learn those heroes and “get good” with them. And you might in the future end up picking other heroes to main.
I started off playing almost exclusively Junkrat and Genji, then I started playing Pharah, then DVA, now I play a lot of Hanzo and Widow, but also quite a bit of Zarya, and supports. I might have played this game a little too much but at least I’m experienced in just about every role so I can fill any slot my team needs. ;w;

Pick up Brigitte or Doomfist if you want a chance to play the game, most other heroes will leave you stunlocked

lot of god advice I’d just like to add play Mystery Hero’s 6v6 and not the 1v1 duel version. It’s a great way to test all the hero’s in a very chill mode. No one expects much and if your a crappy Doomfist people won’t rage quit.

I’d also highly suggest not starting Competitive soon as you hit level 25. You can if you want but when you end up getting placed low, like sIlver or Bronze you will have an up hill climb getting out of that rank. Once an account is placed all future placements are based around your previous rank.

This means if you speed to level 25 in a weekend and maybe on your 4th day of owning Overwatch do your placements, you’ll end up silver. From there the teams are generally garbage as no one tries or has any idea what they are doing.

You have to be twice as good as your rank would assume to try and climb out of it imo.

there is a lot of negativity on the forum some of it warranted, some of it not(a lot of it from me up until recently :stuck_out_tongue: ) dont let it get to you though, otherwise find a character or two(or 6) you enjoy and have fun

ya are a nasty and a ugli meanie
op dont one trick by any means mercy.

also make sure your profile is not private if you want to be able to use stats sites like overbuff

Don’t listen to other people. The greater half of the playerbase thinks they are MLG pros and it’s not a good time.

Just play the characters you like, make friends, and have fun.

The 2-2-2 method, try to have a good grasp on 2 heroes from each catagory, tanks, dps and support.

if the giant space dragons make you angry don’t worry you’ll get used to them
