So we know where to start, what support steps have you performed to fix this? Blizzard Support - Overwatch 2 Disconnection Problems

It’s more likely that a hop between you and Blizzard’s servers was having problems and has been since corrected. If the servers were having problems, this forum would be flooded with players. Glad it’s all working now though.

I had the same issue… I posted a thread can’t find it but glad you created one here. I play 2 comp matches in a row but when i selected a certain character, i’d get disconnected from the server. When I rejoin I get disconnected again.

Starting to think that someone one the inside is rigging games. It’s not a thought
I want to have, but In Competitive I want to use the character I’m best with to get out of Bronze.

Are staff looking at the complaints that some people are being tolled. Either way if this keeps up it will drive me away from Blizzard and other products. You don’t handle issues with disconnects and make them lose SR.

Failed to connect to server is an error message where something is blocking your connection to the specific IP address of that game server but it won’t disconnect you from the service overall. This is still not a problem with the servers itself but your specific connection to the servers. It is very frustrating and its frustrating to troubleshoot.

If you are getting this error message very frequently, then the best option is to run WinMTR tests.

WinMTR instructions:

  1. Download WinMTR from http://winmtr.net/download-winmtr/ (Console players need a Windows Desktop Computer connected to the same network as their console to do this.)
  2. Unzip the WinMTR.zip file to the Desktop.
  3. Open the WinMTR folder and select the 32 or 64 bit version. Choose whichever one corresponds to your version of Windows.
  4. Run the WinMTR.exe
  5. Type the IP address you want to trace in the “Host” field. To get the correct IP you will actually need to open up the game and go Practice Vs AI or Quick Play and if you are on PC hit Ctrl+Shift+N and it will bring up the ingame network diagnostic graph, or go to Video > Options > Display Network Performance Graph if you are on any platform including Console. In the top left corner is the IP address you want to run WinMTR to.
    Network Graph
note When looking at the IP it will show up ingame as something like 12.34.56.78:12345. You will want to leave the last 5 digits and the colon at the end off and the IP you want to use is just the 12.34.56.78
  6. Once you notice the connection issue while playing, play for about 6 more minutes, minimize the game and click on “Stop”.
  7. Click on “Copy text to clipboard”, then return to this forum thread.
  8. Type two sets of four squiggly lines and then paste the contents of the WinMTR test between: ~~~~ Paste WinMTR Test Results Here ~~~~

If in the event you can’t even connect to Overwatch and get into any game mode at all, please use one of the following IP addresses based on your geographical region:

  • US West - 24.105.30.129
  • US Central - 24.105.62.129
  • Brazil - 54.207.107.12
  • Europe - 185.60.114.159

  • Korea - 211.234.110.1

Still have have gone from 1300 SR to 1100 through disconnects. I don’t have this issue with any other game, and my internet runs fine. No other member on my team suffered this either.

These hubs seem to be a bit of a problem. The first one there has a small amount of data loss, but it also has really bad latency spikes. The second one doubles up on the latency. From what I can tell, this is what I call a “backbone” hubs, basically the hubs that make up the general architecture of the internet, that connect between your ISP and web services we use.

Recommended actions:

  • Possibly check with your ISP for any known reported issues. PLEASE NOTE, they directly may not be able to do anything about this, but they can receive the report to hopefully pass along to the appropriate network partners that do.
  • In most cases like these, issues like this resolve on their own over time. Continue to test the game in NON-Competitive game modes until the symptoms go away.

Penalties are frustrating, but they are there for a reason. In addition to the article that Nicole linked, the penalties exist to make sure leavers are kept to a minimum overall in Overwatch. Remember that from the perspective of the 11 other players in each match you get disconnected from, all they see is that there was a leaver, and they won’t care about the reasons why. Sadly there is no effective way to resolve disconnections, the game crashes, or other uncontrollable factors without taking a penalty, otherwise dishonest players would exploit such factors to avoid such penalties.

I recommend that you post this feedback in a separate topic in the general discussion forum (as it is most likely to be seen by development team), however while I see your argument, I do work to look at both sides of the debate. I myself nearly got banned in season 2 due to game crashes and I had to do a lot of work to resolve those issues. Players don’t want leavers in their matches. Yes I understand about rewarding loyalty but even then that has to come second to what is fair.

This just happened to me too. I have no Internet issues the game just lost connection to server I got logged out and when I got back in I was suspended for 10 minutes. What gives?
