If you are that desperate to see your team mates stats, there’s always overbuff.
Otherwise, at the end of the day, it’s my profile. What I do with my profile should be my decision. You have no right to view my profile unless I allow it. There’s always the option to block those players or avoid them as well if it bothers you, but either way, I will certainly be utilizing my right to privacy, as others will, to prevent the micro-managers and toxic in-game bullying, and apparently Blizzard agrees that we deserve to have that right.
I believe that is the purpose of the new social features, alongside limiting the chance that players get toxic over role queue and hero selection. A marvelous solution that I can’t wait to see hit the live servers.

I love how you just gloss over a real issue as if it’s not something the community has a problem with in game.
Masking issues behind a new coat of paint doesn’t fix the issues.
Like right now part of the problem in QP is the match maker is going way, way too wide. I mean 3.5k with a 900SR player. Team of low golds with one 3k+ player on each team. Teams of golds and one diamond vs team of all plats. It’s part of the reason the games are so bad being the tiers don’t really play well with each other. Hum how can that be fixed…
Oh yeah, hide the info so you don’t know you’re the only 3k+ player on a team of 2k players vs 1 master player, a silver and few golds.
I’m not trying to defend being being jerks about it profiles but hiding info is NOT a good thing.
Your playing a competitive game mode and by it’s very nature people want to know who is on their team. It’s not your bank records or personal family history.
It’s a team based game where people want to know who is on the team. It’s also an optional game mode. I could just as easily counter if you don’t want to share your info, in a comp setting, don’t go into a the 100% optional comp setting.
It’s QP. Why we need care about it? You can still group up with top 500, when you are bronze? And wat? IT"Z JUS QP. With open profile you will see it, and wat? You will report top 500 player for playing qp?
Are you trolling? Legit question. Cause most people i see that are toxic dont use hours played or anything more advanced for them like winrates. They just scream for swaps or that people are terrible on their hero.
Just like people that bully, these toxic people will always find something to use. So this change will do nothing to reduce toxic people. I would be happy if im wrong and it does reduce toxicity, but after enough reading about bullies i dont see how it would.
QP is the bed rock of this game.
When match making is sloppy it makes the game terrible as golds don’t know how to play with tanks or push a choke so it’s near pointless to put them up against 3k+ or even plats. A master level DPS main player will just slaughter, well everyone.
Once profiles get hidden, it just hides match making issues.
and part of how a player knows where they might stand in comp is how well they do vs players of different SR in QP.
Like I wanted to get better at Pharah and used the SR info to see at what point I was getting hit scan owned. Started out being owned by golds, now I’m up high plat DPS mains before I get shot out of the sky.
That’s sort of fun is gone now for future players.
So is the tactics you see from a mercy main random dumb luck or was it a tactic that higher SR players do now? Who’s game play should you pay attention too and emulate as they are a higher SR in your QP game? No way to tell, being that info is all hidden.
Hidden profiles just mask issues and take away lots of info from average players who were not using it to be jerks.
Ive never been a jerk. Never commented on someones hours, SR, winrate, accuracy or anything from stats. The only comments i make are if they arent performing on their hero pick for whatever reason, and even that is rare. Like if they are countered hard i prefer to try and help them more instead of asking them to swap.
I do this every comp match. Part of the fun is to try my best at getting a good team, even when only qp i do this alot.
I never contact anyone from comp outside of that game

these are the types of situations that are going to happen. Hiding profiles doesn’t add anything to the game. People who hide their profiles, have something to hide and are more than likely lying about rank or hero playtimes. Anyone who doesn’t will just own up to having a bad day on their character or just in general. Hiding profiles promotes lying and throwing. It also allows boosted players and cheaters to hide their cheating easier.
also theres the situation where you may think someone is boosted or cheating and cant pull up their stats anymore to confirm it.
you can tell if they all of a sudden jump from silver to masters in a season, or their hero pool just completely changes for a season where they get a rank, and then goes back to their usual the next season.
You can also look into stats to see obvious cheaters. Like if you find a widow or McCree with a 80% critical hit rate its pretty obvious from the stats they are running a trigger bot and just swiping over heads
ah yes, the cop out answer that gets throw around to excuse any/all other random issues in game when it comes to balance, match making and other in game issue.
Hey but don’t worry, it’s all going to be masked behind hidden info now so that’s a fix, kind of, I guess.
and it’s interesting that people are quick to throw around “just play comp” but when comp players ask for comp to be, well more of a hard core competitive like game mode that gets push back too.
Overwatch is quickly becoming the grey 4 door midrange sport sedan of video games. It’s not a sports car or performance sedan, but it’s still got cruddy mpg so it’s not a family hauler. It’s kind of more than one but well under the other.
Who wants some bland goodness?
1 year ago blizzard said that, they will balance game around pros and casuals. So what do you expect. Some sport cars have different modes of driving))))
If they applied to play tank, why the hell wouldn’t they want to do it? It’s not like they were forced to do it. If their most played hero is not a tank, it doesn’t change the fact that they want to play tank at that moment and should not be forced to do otherwise by people looking at their profiles and going “BUT YOUR A MERSY MAINNNNNNN”.
Except, it’s still my decision to hide my profile, not yours. There is no point to make. The option to set your profile to private is the choice of the person who owns that profile, not the choice of others. You are free to disagree with that all you wish, but the fact is that it is up to the players themselves to control what they wish to show, and that you can no longer force others into choosing what hero you want them to, using that information - unless it’s given to you or you find a third party site to pull it up. Which is an amazing feature. I will take full pride in using it.

Can we not make generalizations for people. Not everyone is the strawman of “people who want to blame other people”. In real OW sometimes who you want to play isn’t the best hero. You have to pick around what is needed and what you yourself can actually play.
keep in mind we are talking about an in game setting, on the PTR and not some sort of deep gamer’s rights like issue here. Your terms and phrasing is way over board for the level of in game info being displayed.
Being all of this can change in the snap of the fingers. As blizzard has tinkered with what is or isn’t seen info wise before in game.
Hopefully the settings become private info is only for sub 3k, as in the learning zone for Overwatch. After 3k players hopefully have the basics down and then profiles start to mater a bit more.
I don’t get the strange angst some are showing over it.
Comp is an optional game mode, there is nothing wrong with their being a digital cost to play it, as in one’s comp profile being seen. It’s not personal info, it’s literally the team play road map that got the person to a given SR in the first place.
Team wanting to see that is not unusual, at all.
being I fear once info is mask you are going to see a whole lot more throwers/trolls/smurfs as they can now play core meta heroes, totally throw games and mask it all away behind hidden profiles. Even huge SR dumps like diamonds down to bronze can be hidden. Same people for who boost or cheat the game
There is a REAL down side to hidden profiles and it’s just being sort of glossed over by people who don’t understand or see all the angle at play. It’s a step backwards for the report system and trying to clean up the game.
This is pointless because if they’re lying it’s because they don’t want to change, and if they don’t want to change they don’t have to, you can’t force them. This whole discussion is pointless because knowing if someone on your team play or don’t play a certain hero doesn’t help with anything, because they can still play whatever they want.
If this should be allowed or not is another whole conversation to be had, but the “we need to know if someone is able to play something” means absolutely nothing because they’ll play it regardless and there’s nothing we can do about it.
I stopped caring what hero my team mates I just looks the profil. Yes when I see attack torb I start get annoyed but I’ve just stop caring about. The only time I care about is when I realize no one on the team can syngery with torb so I know where at even more of disadvanatage.
