I just said it can control people. It controls the edge cases. It sets the min/max interacts. It controls their rank. You don’t want to over-constain their behaviour (you could, but you shouldn’t). And you certainly don’t want to over-constrain how you rig handicap and ship matches. That’s just anti-competitive.
You literally said, in this thread that it can control people, is skynet a real thing now? Can the system control me too? and force me not to play Dva/Orisa/Junkrat/Symetra/Torb/Mercy? No it can’t, stop making stuff up trying to prove a point, the system has no control whatsoever over how players will interact.
Edit: afk looking for my tinfoil hat.
If I put a boundary or limit onto what you can/can’t do - I’ve absolutely controlled what you can/can’t do. You will bump into the wall and not be able to cross, because I designed it that way. I can make that box arbitrarily large/small. You can hero select all you want. I could lock that down too, but don’t. Because some degrees of freedom are good for gaming.
No one needs to predict your future intent or read your mind or force your micro actions. They only need to bound and intice your behaviour wholesale.
Pliz name one app that is abuse proof. South Korea has accounts connected to personal ID and jail sentences for boosting and people still do it
Yes. Its called developing , writing code.
So their “development” and “writing code” can invade people’s minds and make them try when they would otherwise throw, make someone pick the best hero at all times when they’d rather play something else, or make them physically unable to turn of their computer when they’re about to rage quit?
Good one. I didn’t realize they had master mind reading/control.
How exactly (give me the most simple example in game) it controls people?
How exactly, again with examples, is System handicapping you?
I understand your want in having a System that bases on SR and not MMR, I personally would not be against that, hell would love to test it out and see how it would work exactly.
I am trying to imagine, objectively, in what way am I being handicapped by the System? And how can the System limit you? If you say 2-2-2 the Devs already gave an option for OQ so they players can choose what to play. I would understand it in a way if there was no OQ and only 2-2-2 (and there was in the beginning, until a huge amount complained so they brought back the OQ), but you have the right to choose which mode you want to play. Are players being forced in that way as well?
No point responding anymore they’re not fixing stupid.
If two people have the same SR, they should be treated equally. But these two people could have different MMR, which would force the higher MMR person to play on the worse team and the lower MMR person given an easier match because they are expected to perform worse.
This is unfair to the higher MMR person, because they have to work harder in order to get the same SR reward. That is how they handicap games to try and make fair matches but it’s not right.
Normally I don’t care too much about smurfs/boosted etc. But after fighting 2x times the same dps-guy (carrying) in ranked this evening … last season low-diamond on tank/support, dps strangely dropped from plat to low silver (ok, over 2 seasons) I don’t know…
Do you still haven’t got your personal booster? Wait for call soon!
If they didn’t do that, all games would be one sided stomps, wouldn’t be fun to play, right?
They should match by SR only and scrap MMR, since SR is all that determines your place on the ladder. It’s not unfair because you are only playing with and against other players in your same SR range.
There may be more stomps but even with the current system we have more than enough of those. May as well at least try to get the ratings correct. Maybe after more people are ranked correctly the number of stomps would decrease.
So we’re going to have fake ranks and fake ladders for the sake of “fun to play” ?
I don’t see how guranteeing stomps on either side is going to fix the issue. Players will have skewed Winrate and experience stomps very often.
Where does this come from? The little house of “because I think so”, or did you run the math? Cause that’s not what the math says, at all.
If SR is working as intended - and it should because it’s the end all be all - it won’t “guarantee” stomps. There would be fewer stomps as time goes on, and SR finally measures ability to win (naturally - vs. an average backdrop) at a particular rank.
Right now, SR is the most low-fidelity metric in all of esports. A clown could devise a better system. 5+ years no-reset account-based winrate in an alt-infested ladder? Where your actual score (MMR) is some hidden complex that is used to rig matches for/against? Total folly.
If they stand by their ladder they’ll matchmake and rank by it. Fun is secondary. Forcing fun, engaging, close games is anti-competitive.
To be completely honest, I haven’t done any maths about probabilities when thinking about this, frankly I don’t have time for that.
To change the the game to randomly decide which players are on which team will result in matches where all the worst players are on the same team/all good players on the same team which = stomps.
For a small SR range at steady-state, players belonging much higher or lower would be somewhat rare, and distribute for/against, so you would experience an average backdrop for that bracket.
Extremal events like randomly getting all the best vs. all the worst (=maximal stomp) of that SR band would be rare events like getting a royal flush vs. 2-7 offsuit. Maches might feel more random but they would be less forced/rigged.
