Error: Rendering Device Lost

I get this error quite frequently mid-game, and I’m not sure which component of my PC is causing this error to be thrown. I handle it by exiting Battle.net and re-starting Overwatch.

My System:

  • OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home Version 10.0.19041
  • Motherboard: X570 I AORUS PRO WIFI - BIOS version: F12e
Only thing I changed was fan curves, XMP profile, and enabled SVM mode
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • Memory: G.Skill DDR4 32GB RAM (3400MHz, CL 19-19-20)
  • Graphics: Powercolor Red Dragon (AMD Radeon RX 5700)
  • Monitor: AOC AG271QG4 (2560 x 1440 @144Hz)

Things I have tried:

  • disable SysMain from services.msc
  • downgrade Radeon softrware from Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.4.2 to 20.2.2
  • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  • various in-game video setting adjustments

Please let me know if anyone knows how to fix this.

Have you updated your bios?

You might still be on too current of a driver, according to the pinned thread from the staff:

You can also check the Windows Reliability History tool to see if you can spot whatever is causing the timeout event. Sometimes it can be overclocking, as Overwatch isn’t friendly with XMP or GPU overclocks (even stock OCs).

Thank you Nicole, for your detailed response.
It looks like the proprietary software that comes with the new Radeon drivers is causing the issue. Killing the process Radeonsoftware.exe before running Overwatch seems to fix the issue!
I will update if I continue to get crashes.
