I’ve just bought the game, installed it, and after changing my password, it says error applying update (hf-1) when I try to go into any game mode. The game just takes me back to the login screen every time. I’ve tried scanning for updates, scanning and repairing, reinstalling the game twice, and the problem persists. Any help, please?
I was having this exact same problem, with trying to apply update today, and getting the hf-1/hf-01 error message. Just wanted you to know, I found a forum where others were having this problem. We did this for my daughter, and it worked. Now we are queued for a game!

I have just tried deleting the Overwatch folder in the %localappdata% as suggested and it seems to work fine! Thank you very much! 
I’ve just started getting the exact same error, and I have tried every fix I can think of and those that are listed for support. Definitely think it’s a bug. Pretty damn major one too. Be nice if they could fix it!
