A grind is there for a reason. I understand the fact that one should not be forced into outplaying everyone at a certain rank to get to the next one but that is what competitive actually is. I too would like to be in a team in Gold where people know their roles and them playing it accordingly, but no such luck. Even saying that is arrogant on my part since I do not fulfill my role properly as well, otherwise I would have ranked up by now. You just have to be one to make the difference. In anything not only video games. You have to prove that you belong in the next tier by being better than your current one.
And people are already placed. People have been placed since the comp came out. The problem is that people do not like where they are being placed at and continue to blame the cake itself for making them gain weight instead of their own lack of restraint for not eating the said cake.
well said. arguments people make are “survivorship bias” fallacies i.e just because a minority are in high ranks does not mean the system works. the normal distribution will always mean you have outliers. the point of elo hell is the system is designed to be as grindy as possible via totally unnecessary RNG, unless you are an outlier or expend a massive amount of time and effort to make yourself an outlier.
Man people overthink this game so much. Win games = more sr lose games you lose sr. Very hard stuff. You better then your rank? Then you win more games.
Elo hell is 100% real. I have multiple accounts that I can get and maintain plat to diamond. I can climb out of silver and gold. Done it a few times.
I have an account that was 700 and I can not get it out. This was my first account and my PC/ISP setup was less than ideal. I can get into the low 1000s, but never to silver on my current setup. The games are too unpredictable unless you carry the whole match and you need to win too many games to get out. Way too easy to get weird matchups with smurfs and bots(more bots in bronze/silver than plat strangely enough)
Again, I’m probably as hard of a plat tank/healer as you can find and it’s much harder to climb in low bronze than in silver or gold. Even winning all 5 ranking matches only brought me from 745 to 900ish.
Elo hell is a good term. where I understand your critical learning points of each SR ranking. putting each lesson into practice is easier said than done. getting 6 random people pushed on to one goal, can be like hearding cats. so yes Elo hell exsists but there are different levels of hell for each ELO < putting the needed practices into effect>
i agree that climbing in low bronze is harder than silver/gold, but you should find a group of bronzes before you queue, so you are guaranteed not to have leavers/afk/throwers on your side. use the system to your advantage
i think that’s how the matchmaker works and why people go on big winning and loss streaks
you do well = hidden mmr gets higher
matchmaker then tries to balance teams by giving you worse teammates
you lose matches = hidden mmr goes down
matchmaker gives you better teammates
People who talk about elo hell are like flat earthers. No matter how hard you try you will never be able to persuade them the earth isnt flat because they fundamentally believe everything that is real is fake and deny its existence. Its pointless.
Really? Because Elo Hell deniers are the ones using false logic and blatantly ignoring endless facts presented in favor of making up their own realities based on esoteric information that they couldn’t possibly parse correctly.
Yeah, you can’t point out the fact that 700-1000 is inordinately difficult to climb when compared to silver-diamond. They’ll find some stream of a top 1% player doing it and say “see?? derp de doo. I told you it’s easy.”.
You just don’t know what ello hell is. Ello hell is just the quality of matchmaking in lower ranks.
It doesn’t mean you cannot climb and with enough games you can do everything. You can climb a mountain free soloing or free climbing.
I find it funny that people dont recognize (or they do it for likes on forums) that the quality of matches is very different in lower than higher ranks. The peoples mentality, smurfs, new accounts, leavers etc. So why the f this “new age” notion that ello hell doesn’t exists is propagated I don’t know.
Probably for psychosocial factors to help discouraged players. Just by using logic alone you can come to the conclusion that: yes lower bracket matchmaking is bad in every game. It just a fact and you must go through it if you want to climb.
Look at Blizzard/Activision’s FPS related patents, the games rigged by statistics and behaviors. They aren’t going to say it is, but the patents explain it clearly. Check out this Activision patent on google patent: 20190091577 Kind CodeA1.
It really is truly sad that some people look for excuses in everything. Then again I at one point did the same till I realized well its just excuses. Not going to lie I come on the forums a lot cause I find some sort of joy that I am no longer like this I guess.
If deep down you spend this much time making excuses for a video game man I don’t wanna see your personal life.
It’s actually crazy how mentality affects your gameplay. I had a streak a couple days ago being tilted about my teammates being awful and doing x thing wrong etc etc and genuinely being like “oh yeah i’m killing half their team and constantly got gold everything” and stuff, and nearly fell to plat. The next day I just literally stopped blaming my team, focused on just playing as well as I could and I nearly hit master a couple days later. Focusing on your own performance really is the best way to climb.
I’m not looking to climb or making in-game excuses. I’m REALLY bad at this game, and it shows. I’ve also said you don’t get better with comms, heals, tanks, teams, or winning. If you’re not 1v12 you’re using other humans as a crutch.
But 99% of these posts are about expecting fair ranks - fair play for fair pay. We want the SR labels to be meaningful. If you’re holding someone up in the <500 because their monitor isn’t on, I get that. But if you’re holding them up when they clearly have a hero pool, some mechanics/sense, and more hours than you punched at your paid job last year, then why are they still considered bottom 1%? What are they rigging behind the scenes that bullies them into that progression.
I have some replays btw, let me grab 'em. April Fools ought to show what kind of a b500 crapper I am.
But the ranks and games are fair in general. I’ve been all around the ranks (except GM+) and like, I get an equal number of unlosable ones as I do unwinnable ones. SR is generally accurate with enough games played and nothing outlying such as a loss streak or disconnects. Spilo even mentioned in his elo hell video that not even in one of the (1000) vods he reviewed did he feel like the person he coached deserved to be more than 250 SR above their current rank. No top coach (that I know of) in this game has said there is an issue with people being horribly misplaced.
Well that doesn’t mean that you aren’t bottom 1%. None of that matters unless you know how to and have the ability to outplay your opponents in that elo. Hours invested does not equal SR gained, it’s not a ladder to climb simply by playing more, it’s by being better than your elo. People also improve at different rates. I’m probably mid-plat border with all my accounts combined and my peak was 3.8 once I was gold border or so. Another friend of mine hit T500 before silver border. I hit master before he even started playing the game. That’s just how it is.
Every alt corrupts the ladder, reshapping it with SR mass in places where it doesn’t belong (we have math on it). The game uses rigging (we have patents on that with pictures of OW in them). The ladder hasn’t been reset in 5 years (another fact). It can take hundreds of games to get to where you belong (with moderate noise levels).
We’ve watched countless “guess my SR” where some panel of ‘experts’ are ‘only’ 1000sr off or fail to spot the thrower/smurf.
Right. 0 ladder maintenance, 0 comms and 0 accountability. A lot of people just aren’t bothering with ranks/climbing. You can’t even get more than 3-4 matches on DPS most nights (queues) or log enough in-game time to offset the ruined matches. And the game mode still takes bribes to work, has more illegal LFG than legit climb groups.
Because of the alts, rigging, and no resets, you only need to sweat 2-3 matches no matter what, to have the higher elo trolls come to and meet you, even if your labeled elo is bronze.
