This would solve absolutely nothing. Like, I don’t even think it’s possible to make a less impactful change to the game without intending to do so.
I see what you’re saying. The way I think of it is that by not banning the word it’s like giving permission to use it.
I’d like to add that it might not impact your experience playing the game, but it would change mine a lot.
EU player here. Everytime I go to lfg there’s always at least one group with an “egirl” in the title. As a girl, it sort of makes me feel… uncomfortable? Just like any other group title implying that a person is searching for a “gamer girlfriend” or something even more explicit. I wish Blizzard could do something against all of these, but I realize that it’d be impossible with the lengthes people would still go to include such words in the title.
It’s kind of weird seeing a backlash against banning a word with a definition that can be summed up as “a gamer prostitute”. I understand that people might not consider it something significant, yet not everyone does the n-word either, even though I’m sure most of the people above do think of it as offensive.
Also, I appreciate you being polite in your replies.
Okay I’m sure it might not be the best place to advertise it, but my man has kinks and if he wants to be beaten black and blue by a dom then hey who am I to judge.
What do you think about banning the word egirl so it’s a better experience for women playing the game?
I wouldn’t be opposed to it. I look into LFG and the amount of the “looking for egirl to pocket me” and some other variation is just annoying. I find really odd that people even join them.
Some words are confusingly banned. If I recall correctly, in Custom Games, I was trying to make a custom match looking for a Doomfist main, and the game would not allow me to put “looking for”. Now this could just be me forgetting something.
How? As someone mentioned, removing the “e” won’t change the sentiment. In all of the examples you listed, you could just say “girl” and nothing changes. This stuff will still show up because, as strange as it may seem to us, there are entire subcultures of people who enjoy these kinds of relationships and aren’t being malicious with the use of the word or these titles. The term isn’t inherently negative.
I think a good solution would be to add a personal words filter, so that anyone can hide the words or their variations they’re not comfortable with from when they’re looking for a group or a custom game (or even make them get ***ed in chat)
Well, personally it would improve my experience because having to navigate through so many LFG titles that do use it negatively makes me feel kinda sick. It would also be good to know that the people developing the game give an actual **** about others like me getting to use all of the features of the game instead of having to avoid them.
As far as the word not being inherently negative, I’d like to point out that “egirl” isn’t actually a “word” – it’s a slang term used to describe something stereotypical and screwed up – or just stupid depending on how it’s used. So it is inherently negative.
Edit to add: thank you for asking
Did this actually get flagged lol that’s incredible. Obviously someone thought it would be funny. It is but not in the way they think it is.
Very pragmatic. I like it.
Yes, more than once. I was pretty bummed, I thought no one would be able to see it, but it’s still there when the system flags, it just hides my post under a link. Makes it a little more intriguing, though, don’t ya think?
Well for one thing I’m glad I read it. 9 times out of 10 a flagged post doesn’t get read… which is why someone did it in the first place. It’s a big reason why they removed the ability to downvote posts because it would automatically flag the post as spam and hide it, too.
But all that said, I agree. It’s obviously something of a gamer meme, but imo not a healthy one.
I’m fine with egirl tbh. I try to see it… in a funny way. Like I never thought of it as such a bad word man, idk.
A few days ago I saw a group with the title “we have loli egirl”. THIS crossed a line for me personally, so I reported it.
Uhm, does this really warrant being flagged? This community…
Lol what’s with the flags?
