Effect retiring reminds us all

a big factor in effect and dafran quitting is brig existing

both players were forced to scrim for months on heroes they don’t want to play

and not only them, most DPS players are in brig jail and have been for the past quite a while

#deletebrig would’ve fixed it but hey, blizz gonna ruin most of the cast instead finally deciding to #deletebrig until they rework her into something that isn’t a horrible abomination balance wise

lol i wouldn’t hold my breath

there are so many bailouts and so much CC, they are already determined to make OW the new World of Warcraft.

I think you are well under estimating how much pressure these players are currently in on monthly basis.

OW gives you access to basically godlike abilities and your are suppose to perform at all times under these simulations in virtual world, it’s almost never okay to underperform, because your career is on the line every single mistake counts.

i’m honestly tired of seeing resources wasted on reworking heroes that don’t even belong in the game.

the new voice lines, designing of abilities etc. “wheres the content???” oh well flanker brigitte, torbjorn and symmetra rework were the new content when we could have had improvements to comp and new game modes instead

it’s still much less work than to adjust the rest of the cast, which is what they seem to be doing

but yeah, I agree, she has no place in the game.

He’s not breaking under the pressure of playing a video game, he’s breaking under the pressure of being a professional esport player. Having to be the best is stressful especially if you have that expectation of yourself.

He’s also someone who struggles with low self esteem and suicidal thoughts which could mean that he also suffers from depression and I don’t think that being benched because he can’t provide any value to his team in the current meta is helping him.

Despite all that experience you don’t seem to respect people who do something at the highest level. Just a video game LOL.

I feel like your entire post is basically saying “it’s ok to be toxic because sometimes life is frustrating”. That should not be the lesson here.

He doesn’t really have to be the best. No one expects him or Dallas to best. He has a history not handling stress well, depression. The players on the really good teams and all Korean teams are under way more pressure to perform.

I’m not saying he’s weak but it’s an exaggeration that he specifically is under loads of pressure

you might want to file a patent for whatever elastic substance you just invented allowed you to make a stretch that far

there may be some money in it

Effect is half the player ado is. He’s washed anyway.

He doesn’t have to be, but that’s what he expects of himself. He was also hyped up to be one of the best DPS in S1 and it didn’t go well there. Even the team he played for was hyped up to be a western super team due to the rosters history as Envyus.

Taimou is struggeling with the same things.

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration, the guy literally has suicidal thoughts and afaik, he’s the only pro who has been open about it. He feels like garbage for getting a salary while being on the bench.

I will do mine after the anniversary. To be honest, Warframes community got me. The best gaming community ever.

The Torb rework was good as it made him more viable and actually usable. He’s a fun and skilled hero, only thing that isn’t skilled is turret but even then you have to know where to place it.

I mean professional gamer is a real job.
Excepted that job has a limit time frame and you tend to retire early.

Could’t agree more,I’m putting my Talons away for some time due to some PC problems but if you’re looking for a good community I recommend Warframe without second thought

Also the Devs interact way more but the point is not shading OW’s Devs

It becomes even worse older you are, the hunger new players have to win but also being able to have more time at your disposal.

Eventually you get to point where you skills can wane depending on how fast other players are improving or how meta evolves requiring to be the best at heroes you might not enjoy potential causing you to underperform.

There is no end to improving, all depends how well you use your time.

EFFECT quit because he was having suicidal thoughts and was fighting depression. The allure of stardom wore off and he couldn’t deal with his mental health anymore.

It had nothing to do with game balance or Brig.

Dafran also has a history of mental health issues.

Wow Effect retired as well? Seagull, Dafran, and now Effect have retired from OWL and to be honest I thought they would all be lifers. If OWL is causing these pros to retire as quickly as they are signing I think it is time to look at how stressful this game and make up of the league is.

I’d disagree, the meta change definitely had something to do with it as the skillset he had been practicing and perfecting for years no longer were useful to him. Couldn’t play any of his signature heroes and AKM was the better Zarya of the two which meant he had to be benched.

Unless you’re a personal colleague of EFFECT, EFFECT himself, or a family member your agreeance is irrelevant.

“I don’t want to foolishly act upon it and commit something like suicide. But no matter how I think about it, I think I need healing. I think I need to consult with doctors,” - EFFECT
