Drug use in OWL

After seeing this post: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/the-rampant-drug-use-in-competitive-pc-and-console/288021
I thought, what if OWL players were to use drugs? Are they tested as competitors in other sports are? Would it be against the rules?

Everyone knows they use. It is what it is.

I previously made a thread on the subject.

Look you play 8 hours a day without steroid injections in your fingers and see how you feel?

I look at some of the popular streamers and yeah… it seems like that might be a likely scenario lol.

The average college student has no problem getting whatever they need so anything that improves focus is going to be used. I don’t know if they are tested or not in OWL.

“drug use testing” is kinda dumb tbh. I dont do any of the sort. But there are SO many ways to circumvent the tests. It’s really lame and pointless. I mean if the person is BLITZ out of their mind and causing issues and/or hurting someone. yeah a Drug test is PLENTY fair. I think at that point it’s just better to call the COPS and let them deal with it though :open_mouth:

The drug give you like 1% more performance increase…

You take a drug and 1 vs 1 sureflour or drafan to see if you can beat them even AFTER you took the drug -_-

ritalin and aderal like drugs will always be popular amongst gamers and people that need to focus

they can be prescribed so it must be hard to police.

it’s not like they’re on street coke or street amphetamines. that would be easier to police.

is coffee a drug?

it is but im not sure if its performance enhancing. i get a bit shaky with too much coffee, hard to aim

perfect for moira though :sunglasses:

Nate Nanzer said there Kd no point in testing them cause there’s no proof that Adderall boosts their performance

it’s not really about boosting performances but allowing to sustain the same focus for an extended period of time, i would assume.

normal person gets tired of focusing hard after 30 minutes, adderal kid keeps the focus 2 hours. something like that i would think.

back when i was abusing speed, i would be able to focus on a game for 48 hours straight, with one pill per 6 hours.

humans aren’t supposed to do that

That’s a pretty lame excuse from him. There are many substances which could improve performance. Such as beta blockers, and they are actually forbidden in many sports (competition only).

It might not be possible to scientifically prove that Adderall can improve performance. But you can’t scientifically prove that anabolic steoroids improve athlete performance either. Reason being the doses typically abused are far too dangerous to use in scientific test on humans in a medical environment. You can’t ethically or legally let a doctor inject a typical bulk dose on a patient to see what happens.

So even if it’s obvious that steoriod abuse improve muscle performance it is in fact impossible to prove that, or even document side effects. It’s of course not an ethical issue to research the effects of Adderall in normal doses. But the point is that it’s evidently possible to ban all kinds of substances, only on the suspicion that they may impact performance.

If competing marksmen are forbidden to use beta blockers to focus and relax, why should competing gamers be allowed to use it? Or Adderall? If there’s even a slight suspicion that beta blockers may improve marksman aim, shouldn’t that also transfer to people playing snipers in OWL?

As others have stated… everyone knows that OWL players use. And PEDs do help your performance. There is a reason why the NFL bans them. Adderall is banned by the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB and the NCAA. It’s tolerated in the OWL, because e-sports are in their infancy. They don’t want to hurt their cash cow / business investment.

Most of the Esports ban everything like Adderall so thats weird.

This is not a good argument, friend.

Drugs are prohibited in sports, not because they think a total rookie can use them and win against a star athlete, but because they don’t want one star athlete to have an unfair advantage over another.

For some, especially programmers, it is.

My point is this:

The drug give you 0.5%-1% performance increase over other players but the PRICES you need to pay in your BODY are too much for that 1%…

Only a IGNORANT will put in danger his “BODY” for 1% increase having already a salary as E-sporter, having already a Streamer fanbase and generating ridicolous amount of money 9k-12k USD per month

Remember all the DRUGS have a tax on your health and honestly if somebody is enough DUMB to do that let him in 3 - 4 years his entire body will get destroyed

Good point actually.

I could imagine pros or wannabes are potentially abusing certain drugs that improve focus and alertness.

Gimme the source for that claim of yours.

Welp, i did played other games that long for months every day in summer.
Didnt had to use anything :stuck_out_tongue:
