Double Shields was countered by Old Sym

Piercing Orbs would do nothing against Double Shield. It would probably do way less than current Sym because nullifying the Double Shield strat requires you and your team to burst down the shields as quick as possible.

Sym’s current primary fire is more effective at that than her old orbs because they latter were quite literally designed to prioritise damaging through shields - not at shields. Since it’s just a measly 80dmg per orb that’s also travels slowly, all you’d do is give free ult charge to enemy supports.

But it was really funny when you got a kill

I went back to 2017 fandom history and it was 10 m/s lmao 2sec charge time for a 125 dmg ball.

the idea was the shove 60 dmg orbs down a tight hallway or choke area

then they would be forced to walk into them

Sym’s orbs are basically aesthetic, I think ive killed by them maybe twice in my life and both times i was being stupid.

Much of why it’s bad is because there are honestly very few real choke points in the entire game. If people do try to take choke points various tools already exist to deal with it imo.

This was back when Symmetra was a support. So long before double shields ever came around. People complained often about her secondary fire being able to pierce so they removed it when she was reworked.

It was only good to get a burst of ult charge at the start of a match so you could get your teleporter (pemenant, with the other portal in your spawn) down in the first 30 seconds.

It did nothing to counter shields, and mostly just fed ult charge to healers.

Sigma and Symmetra 2.0 never coexisted. I’m pretty sure he would demolish her though.

Her need to be up-close to do significant damage would put her in perfect Accretion range.

Current Symmetra is better at dealing with double shield and bunker comps - you just teleport the team behind the shields and attack them from behind. Won so many games on Anubis teleporting my team directly on point that it’s almost ridiculous how good the strat could be (RIP Anubis).
