Doom as a Ball counter?

Match quality in general is in the dumpster right now, but I’d rather forget about that for a moment. I just had a moment in one of my Comp disaster matches that made me think. The enemy had an annoying WB, I was out of ideas, and I just happened to try going Doom in one round. I ended up knocking him around and ruining his momentum when he tried to do his fireball routine, eventually blew him up, and then he immediately swapped off to Mauga. Is it normal for Doom to be strong against Ball, or is that just bad match things?

It’ll work if Ball is running it down mid at you, I imagine good WBs would start adapting by starting engagements from unexpected angles (or just be doing that from the get-go), not to mention as Doom you generally go for backline pressure and lose that value if you’re on Ball Patrol. If it works, it works, though, denying Ball value does a lot for your team.

Despite all this I tend to find myself struggling against good Doom players when playing Ball - Doom is a bit quicker with his burst damage so he can often score a pick on one of my squishies while I’m busy distracting his, leaving us in 4v5. You’d have to ask other Doom/Ball players, I don’t really play Ball in solo tank environments anymore…
