Don't say "GG" if it's a trash match

You’d be surprised. OW is pretty unique in that anything less than steamrolling feels like you’re playing badly, but even beyond that the playerbase is really quite dumb overall.

You do realize it’s a general sign of respect for other players that at least tried? Why do I feel like the people mad about GG being said after a game and false report people are the same ones who will call their teammates trash and think it’s perfectly non toxic?

I say gg wp at the end of every game. If there is a legitimate reason as to why a match would be unfair (like a leaver, for example), I’ll usually apologize for the leaver and leave it at WP.

I want to recognize my team and my opponents, for without both I wouldn’t even be playing the game. It’s sportsmenship, and the intent is to show respect.

I say GG pretty much every match but if the match was straight up unfair like a 5v6 in comp, I acknowledge that as well (“sorry about your leaver”).

this is erasure of every other kind of snack you could be eating and i won’t stand for it.

back to the actual topic, though: i pretty much only say wp at the end of a 5v6 where we had a full team out of respect for the people who stayed. i rarely ever say gg or wp at the end of any games normally, because i’m a jaded and salty human being.

I feel like this is also important. I feel like a lot of people just assume others are saying gg as a way to bully others, when often that isn’t the intent. It’s unfair to apply ill intent to someone’s words where there is none.

Obviously if the game was unfair because someone left for example, they should acknowledge that in some manner rather than just leaving it at gg. But I honestly think most people who type out gg or ggwp mean it to be a show of sportsmenship.

I say “Good game, Good Luck!”

Enemy had a leaver?
“Good Luck!”

My team had a leaver?
“Good game, Good luck!”

if you view it as toxic then that’s simply your view. not everyone sees things the same way as you do. some people see it as a simple handshake

You can thank League of Legends and their stupid TV commercial for turning “GG” into abusive chat.

I no longer use it. And it’s time to stop using it. Now I say “thanks for match, everyone”.

If I see someone use GG in a clearly lopsided match, I don’t care what they believe the meaning of “gg” is, they’re instantly muted (and maybe reported and blocked, depending on how i feel).

LOL…nice BattleTag.

And sure, I can’t stop you, but i will at least mute you if you use “gg” in a clearly lopsided match.

What commercial exactly?

This one:

Edit: By the way, Lazy Peon…you’re not the same LazyPeon that used to make YouTube videos about World of Warcraft, right?

People say “GG”
get over yourself.

I’m really confused how it’s shown as being abusive here?

Like, the commercial goes out of its way to show people winning and losing saying gg.

Edit: I am not the youtuber, sorry for the confusion. I’ve had the name for a good fourteen years now, gets mixed up a lot unfortunately haha.

I still can’t believe that today’s hot topic is “saying GG after a one sided match is toxic”

GG is a sign of good sportsmanship. Regardless of how the match went, it’s common courtesy to thank the enemy team for the match. The people on the enemy team are human too, imagine how they’ll feel if they say gg and someone on the enemy team doesn’t say gg back.

GG is the digital version of the handshake at the end of a match.

If winners say it first, it’s gloating. Not sportsmanship.

And is the decision on whether they are gloating or showing good sportsmanship influenced by the outcome of the match?

It’s not a sport, it’s a game.
