I mean sombra was pretty much neutered in the last set of patches.
Like she isn’t even stealth hero any more if you own a pair of ears. As she has to announce every run with a fire work that is TP.
As for virus, it’s actually a sudo nerf from the previous version. As were she basically had 40% damage boost to any hacked target for three or four clips of damage.
And kind of just melted tanks.
Virus allowed her to keep the TTK on squishies, added a second point of failure where you could block/eat/cleanse the effect. While limiting her DPS on tanks.
Which to me was fine. AS that was damage transferred from the old passive.

Look ill be honest, it doesn’t matter.
Psyloche could be 1000x better balanced than Sombra and it won’t make any difference.
This balance team never delivers and it’s been that way for almost the entire existence of OW.
I’ve given up long ago and am excited we have MR now.
Her skill ceiling definitely got raised. You can do more on the hero if you play right and have good aim simply because of the big dmg buffs. However her skill floor was neutered and it feels like if you make the slightest error you just die. Yet people still say Sombra is a riskless and easy hero.
It really didn’t.
It just makes it so most of the bigger plays she can do be pretty much on the spot if she can squeeze it in sort of deals. Were their is enough wholes in the enemies play to do so. with a kit that reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally isn’t suited for mid combat plays. As her big set-up tool breaks and goes on cooldown if you hit with even 1 damage while using it.
Outside that her kit mostly just punish tanks like like d.va / ball doom that are easy to hack. Then spam via her spread weapon just getting a damage boost to do 198 dps by it’s self. While also layered into virus.
You really don’t need skill do that, your just for most part worst tracer.
Just because you have a numbers advantage doesn’t mean you automatically win, especially when you’re actively being aware of the inevitable 5v5 from an unexpected angle
Sombra got reworked because of her invis, there’s not anything more to be said about it. It was bad for the game.

You don’t need to knees deep into the enemy team burning all your cooldowns in that scenario.
Especially when you know a sombra or another flanker is out their wanting to jump you the moment you do.
That is 100% you playing exactly what the flanker wants you to do.
It’s not even a rework, the just removed her ability to enter invis without TP.
Then nerfed her hack.
For the most part how she plays now, is part 2 of how you were suppose to play her post your initial set-up.
But the old version had a shorter cooldown on TP, better mobility because you didn’t have to burn it to get around.
The only positive was like the extra damage, which is just mostly used to bully tanks.

You don’t get much coordination in quickplay which meant that Sombra was usually pretty free to bully. If that weren’t true then she wouldn’t have gotten changed! Stop being stupid

you literally just need to hold back and not hard commit to the 4v5 in a scenario where you targeted by flanker.
Or in the scenario where someone else is, just be their to help peel them.
This stuff you have complete power to do just by your self.

No she got reworked because people just complained. And mostly those from the lower end of play, because people up top rarely see her at all.
like she was a flanker that didn’t need massive understanding of pathing to do the whole popping around people that flankers are known for.
Because of that people on the lower end of ladder, or didn’t know how to play around flankers. Were getting punished hard for the doing the very thing you mentioned.
How you deal with sombra is the same as any other flanker. But that very thing goes against the instinct to just run at the first thing you see.
If they reworked things just because people complained, don’t you think Widow would have been reworked sometime in the past 8 years?
I mean they have, it’s just they do that with maps. As widow’s kit begins and ends with you having LOS to things at long distance.
Like their is a reason why the Sniper maps got reworked specifically.
Nah, the maps keep Widow in check, but it’s Widow you see people complain about. If it was about complaining and not balance, they would rework Widow and not the maps because Widow is what people talk about.
Sombra was stupid and she got changed for it. Period.
Ya thus the map changes that limit her LOS, cover up her perches, adding new flank routes or ways to leave spawn so she can’t just hover over 1 door. Giving you more room to play around her specifically.
As their not many heroes that will be interacting with you from those spots lol.
On the maps she gets the most complaints on. Specifically Havana and circuit royal.
Because like I said her kit begins and ends with having LOS to you. Effectively reworking how she plays on those maps.
None of those map changes have changed the discussion about Widow at all. If complaints got characters reworked, Widow would have gotten reworked long ago.
Furthermore, Sombra has been reworked four times. They have only done two rounds of Widow focused map changes, and the first round on Route 66 and Junkertown didn’t change anything at all.
You’re making excuses and trying to ignore the reason Sombra got reworked again. Perma invis was cancer, nobody liked it, and it was harmful to the overall game in a significant way. It got taken out because it was bad.
Psy has whats basically a double tracer blink as well as the short invis. She has what amounts to a short-mid range shotgun, not an SMG.
You cant compare an individual ability when the rest of their kit is so different.
But ultimately you cant ever ‘prove’ what is a problem about a heroes kit anyway, when the issue is perception not effectiveness. People hated sombra perma invis because it was subjectively “annoying”.
I can point to a dozen abilities that I personally find annoying in both OW and rivals. But so long as they arent overpowered and others find them fun, it ain’t my place to demand they’re changed for that reason, as if everyone gets to make such demands we end up with generic fps with no abilities.
The problem with Sombra is that she suffers from a design issue, not an ability issue. Her character design, at its core, does not jive well with Overwatch. They want her to play like an Assassin Character, but then also want her personality to be one of “hacker”. Somehow “hacker” turned into “I’m invisible and can burst down anyone.”.
They need to lean into the Hacker guise more and the Assassin role less. Make her about supporting the team and less about trying to be an Assassin/Ninja character. If they really want that, rework Genji’s kit.
Sombra’s hack was 100% the thing most people focused on because Sombra’s own lethality was not very high. However, it was extremely easy to get to an off angle with her and hack someone for 5seconds out of all abilities.
When the hack went away, what people focused on the most was her lethality because suddenly she became lower tier easier to play because all you had to do was hack someone for as high as a 50% dmg boost near the OW2 release.
Later on they made her even more casually lethal by throwing on virus. Rather than having any skill necessary to get a kill under a 5sec hack, you now simply have to throw down virus and you’ll do 50% of a squishy heroes HP. All you have to do as a player is land the other 50%. She has so much less aim requirement than ever before. However, it was later the perm stealth that was annoying to deal with because of how lethal the combo became.
Seriously, hacking a target from stealth was a waste of time because it gave people more time to react to your decloaking. Ignore hack, go straight into virus. Then, they removed the perm stealth and now she’s lethal again, but she can’t flank people 100% for free as she could before. She’s now more like genji/tracer. You know shes coming and from where.
The iteration we have now I think is better to deal with. Landing virus from stealth is actually much harder to do again due to limited stealth duraiton. Hack is situationally useful for say putting extra damage on tanks and some abilities / characters for mobility. Sombra feels like a proper DPS now that goes on a limited duration off angle instead of living perm in the enemy backline. All of her most annoying mechanics are now gutted.

Also I would like to note that complaints did reduce her body shot damage, give her damage fall-off, increase charge time, killed her ability to quick scope via changing how damage ramp up works.
Yada yada.
And again those maps were THE sniper maps specifically. As the ones widow played the best on.
These reworks and other changes happened because people complained.
The “new” sombra also is just nerfed. I wouldn’t consider it a rework if they just took soldiers run away and nerfed his missile cooldown. In favor of him having +1 damage on his gun.
On that note, it was complaints specifically about stealth. regarding sombra. Which isn’t something that can be changed via a balance patch.
But thats a lie.
OW characters are more boring and less complex which in turn makes them harder to balance.
A hero like spiderman might be broken but he has to many thing in his kit you can tweak to eventually reach a balanced state compared to a hero like Pharah or Soujourn,
