its literally being asked for in the OPs post:
you implied I tried to twist his words because I didn’t want certain heros in the game. im asking who since you want to put those implications.
In that post, I’m asking a question: Why does it matter? I’m not making unbelievable character ideals if it is a question
That’s not what the OP said. OP said nothing about wanting low-quality heroes.
I wasn’t talking about you.
Your post is saying “give me this type of hero I don’t care if its forced”
forcing would mean, they would have to forgo backstory, character development, and it making sense in the universe of OW, and just put in that character.
look up.
So either
A) you want more diversity now, and like I said, don’t care what they have to undercut to get it.
or
B) Everything you’ve said in this post is not what you actually feel.
Putting a character in a game isn’t forced. as long as its fleshed out, and makes sense in the universe.
Forcing a character is undercutting what would make sense for the sake of having “insert hero type” in the game.
So saying who cares if its forced IS INFACT saying you don’t care if its high quality or makes sense you just want the hero now.
My post is saying: Why does it matter if it’s forced, we still want these heroes. Read the title.
look up and read my reply. You either don’t know what a “Forced” hero is in a game, or you don’t actually feel what you think you feel.
I’m not asking for it now. I don’t care when it happens. Just as long as it does.
then you do care if its forced, and you don’t want forced representation, you want organic representation, where the character makes sense in the universe of OW, and isn’t just put in so they can have a character of a certain archetype in a game.
My main problem with people asking is the whole idea of it feels (to me, at least) completely hypocritical and backwards.
“We want people to see us as normal people and stop seeing us as ‘just an X person’ so put in a new hero where the only thing that matters is the fact that they’re X.”
It just makes no sense when you actually stop and think about it.
It also risks sacrificing a good and compelling story when your main goal is to just make some dude black and try to work around that. That’s where a lot of people end up getting annoyed with the “forced representation,” because it shows when you don’t really have a plan for making said character fit into the story they already have. Quality over quantity, really.
Problem is, we’ve reached the point with this community that if they add any “added representation”, particularly with LGBT+, it will be almost feel completely forced no matter what they do. Emily only really worked well because it caught everyone off guard, same with Symmetra being on the Spectrum. People weren’t expecting it, so the little toss-in’s were a nice touch. But now, if they do it, all anyone will say is either “it’s about time” or “of course they finally gave in”. Sorta defeats the purpose, don’t you think? The entire concept behind it is being ruined because people are making such a big deal over it.
There’s no such thing as forced diversity because you can’t force a creator to do anything.
Diversity in media is increasing because creators genuinely want it at the expense of straight/white/male-driven vehicles.
Any premise that recognizes “forced diversity” as a concept is fundamentally flawed from the start.
You’re simultaneously creating a strawman and confusing two different positions on two different issues.
Hey folks,
